Principal's Update

Dear Parents and Carers,

Thank you for your support this week with managing the pick-up of learning materials.

While we had hoped to avoid an extension to remote learning, based on the anticipated short timeframe and feedback from families, the decision was made to maintain a paper-based approach to remote learning.  This was made on the assumption that we will resume face-to-face learning next week.  If remote learning was to be extended beyond next Tuesday, we will prepare for a move to a blended model of paper-based and online learning.

Our teachers and education support staff are committed to providing continuity of learning throughout and beyond remote learning.  Where possible, learning activities will be differentiated to target your child's next point of learning.  Our tutors will also continue to work with teachers, students and their families, to ensure their continued progress against their individual learning plans.

To assist with making a smooth transition to online learning, all families are asked to ensure they have an active 2021 login to the SeeSaw Learning platform.  Please note that teachers will be sending out registration requests to any family who is not currently registered.  If you have any concerns, you may also contact your child’s teacher via email, using COMPASS.

We are also aware that not all families have a computer or tablet for students to use at home.  To assist with our preparation, can you please advise if you would need to borrow a device for your child, by completing this form.

This term our school is participating in Jump Rope for Heart.  As part of their preparation, all students should have received a skipping rope with their learning pack and a skills activity sheet.  Please see Steph’s PE section for more details.

The 9th-13th August is Book Week!  As usual, we will be celebrating this week with lots of great activities, culminating in our Celebration Day and Parade on Friday 13th August.   This is a highlight in our school year, and I know the staff are all looking forward to another opportunity to dress up!  During lockdown, we encourage all students to make the most of this time and to read as many books as they possibly can.  It is also a great opportunity to work on a costume for the parade!

Looking after our mental health can be challenging during lockdowns, particularly when the weather is so cold and wet.  As a result, I am pleased to share with you a meditation narrated by our Aboriginal educator Lee Couch, a proud Gamilarray women from Northern NSW.  Lee has been delivering the Wayuppa Wuurk program with our Year 5/6 and she has provided the Sun Meditation for you to enjoy with your children/ child or family to invite more warmth and joy into their day. It is a great opportunity to engage with your children in a mindful way while connecting to the Country.
