 Community-minded

Our Learn Stand Give Fly theme this term is Community-minded. The students are all learning about the value of giving to others; how it makes us feel more connected and brings a sense of accomplishment in life.  This week each class is performing acts of kindness for another class. The students have been really creative about what they are doing for each class. Some have buddied up and played with younger classmates at recess and lunch, some have invited the other class to do a special craft activity or read with them, some have made community themed gifts for another class, and one class even decorated personalised masks for the Senior class in true COVID style. :)

We have been building community links between the school and the Kindy this week too!

One concept we will be exploring in the next couple of weeks as part of being community-

minded is 'bucket filling'.  The idea behind this is that everyone goes around carrying an invisible bucket, and we are always either dipping from others' buckets (by unkind words or deeds) or filling others' buckets. The key learning is that when we fill others' buckets, our buckets magically get filled at the same time. It's a concept that really resonates with kids, and I encourage you to talk about it at home, and read the book together if you can access it!

Our students hard at work

I am really enjoying getting around to all of the classes to see the great learning taking place in all classes. Here are the Year 4/5 students learning about tessellation through the artwork of Escher.

Parent Survey

The Department for Education coordinates an annual survey to better understand the things we’re doing well, where we can improve, and what’s important to you as a parent.

On Monday 2 August you would have received an email or SMS from the Parent Survey Team with a unique link to participate in the survey.

I highly encourage you to complete the survey, which takes less than 10 minutes.

Your feedback will be used locally in our school improvement planning and more broadly to inform other key initiatives to improve education in South Australia.

Your answers will not identify you or your child. Only collated feedback will be provided to our school. The last date to complete the survey is August 29.

If you did not receive an email or SMS with your unique survey link, I have included it here:  https://educationsa.syd1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_8oi3YL6pkNAPlf8?RID=CGC_Gj8yxQ779EWCuwt&Q_CHL=email

The RAP working group wants to hear from you!

You may remember in a previous newsletter that I announced that we have started the

process of developing a Reconciliation Action Plan at Uraidla Primary School. There will be many chances to have your say and to be part of this process, but to start with we would love for each school family to send us the answer to this question:

What does Reconciliation mean to you?

Please email Stephen.Tsiaprakas136@schools.sa.edu.au with your ideas and words.

Sports casual day fundraiser

It was great to see all the kids dressed in their casual sporting clothes today to raise money to support Will Flavel who is travelling to compete in the Nationals in basketball. We wish him and his team all the best!

Peekaboo can change the world

I really enjoyed a Ted Talk I saw this week by seven-year-old Molly Wright from the Gold Coast. The Year 2 student warns that children can suffer when adults are distracted by digital devices.  I think it is such a challenge, and one I can certainly relate to since I am as easily distracted by my phone as anyone. I thought I might share it with you as food for thought.

I am excited to be off to the Flinders with Sallie and the Senior (Year 6/7) class next week on our Senior camp. We will be sure to include some wonderful photos in the next edition.

Until then have a great couple of weeks!
