From the Principal

Dear Parents and Carers,

From time to time there are moments in life when you might be wondering. “Where is God in my life right now?”.

In last Sunday’s Gospel, we heard about the time when Jesus and his disciples travelled across the lake in a boat.

With the coming of evening, Jesus said to his disciples, ‘Let us cross over to the other side.’ And leaving the crowd behind they took him, just as he was, in the boat; and there were other boats with him. Then it began to blow a gale and the waves were breaking into the boat so that it was almost swamped. But he was in the stern, his head on the cushion, asleep. They woke him and said to him, ‘Master, do you not care? We are going down!’ And he woke up and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, ‘Quiet now! Be calm!’ And the wind dropped, and all was calm again. Then he said to them, ‘Why are you so frightened? How is it that you have no faith?’ They were filled with awe and said to one another, ‘Who can this be? Even the wind and the sea obey him.’

Mark 4:35-41

As believers, scripture reminds us that during the “storms of life” God is with us: love and care. Recent events in our local and global communities certainly remind us of the many “storms” in life we face.  As a faith community, may we find comfort in that God is with us, even in the ‘stormy’ times.

Parent-Teacher Meetings and School Reports

This week Semester 1 School reports were made available to parents and carers via Nforma Parent Portal.  By now, each family should have received an email (please check SPAM and Junk Mail folders) with instructions to access the reports.  This email contains a temporary password that will need to be changed.

This week, Parent Teacher Meetings will be conducted via Google Meet.  Parents and carers are asked to check in with the previous email messages outlining how to connect with classroom teachers via Google Meet.

Please contact the school office if you have any questions.

Learning Diversity Leader appointed

I have recently appointed Matthew Cherry as the new Learning Diversity Leader. Matthew comes to St Simon’s as an experienced school leader and teacher with previous experience in learning diversity and teaching and learning roles. Matthew will commence his new role in Term 3 Week 1.

I would also like to take the opportunity to thank Hedy Carvalho for all her work in taking on the Acting Learning Diversity Leader role this year.  Hedy and Matthew will be working side by side over the coming months to ensure a smooth transition of support for students, parents and teachers in all matters related to Learning Diversity.

Friday early finish reminder

This Friday 25th June is the last day of Term 2.  The students will be dismissed at 1:10\1:15pm.  The school crossing will be supervised by St Simon’s staff.

In Term 3 we will change the staggered dismissal arrangements to as follows:

Terms 3 and 4 staggered dismissal times

3:10pm: Green and Yellow House

3:15pm: Blue and Red House

A Final Word…

As we approach the end of the Term, I would like to congratulate all St Simon’s students on their achievements in their learning.  Thank you to our parents and carers for continuing to work with the school as partners in learning for the students of St Simon’s.

I hope the school holiday period will provide some much-needed rest for your families, and if you are travelling, please stay safe on the roads.  We look forward to Term 3 which is shaping up to be a very exciting (and busy) term.

God bless
