Uniform Shop Consignment Stock

Launceston Christian School’s Uniform Committee is well underway in selecting a new uniform for our students for 2022.  While this is an exciting change for our school, it does mean that some second-hand uniforms which families currently have on consignment at our Uniform Shop will be unsalable after the end of this year.

To manage this, we have implemented the guidelines below.

Gurasees' gifts

As a class and school community, we have been praying for Gurasees and her family since she suffered from her recent burns. Today, our class was blessed by Gurasees and her family as they presented each child in 3G with a very generous gift. They were grateful for our prayers and love for Gurasees and her family. Thank you to the Kaur family for your generous hearts. We will continue to keep you all in our prayers as Gurasees continues to heal.

Olympic torch

Year 1G have been enjoying learning about the history of Olympics this week. It’s also been exciting to learn about the different Olympic events and keeping a close eye on the medal tally. We had a go at making our own Olympic torch, which proved to be quite challenging, but lots of fun!

Year 6 Worship Band first performance

Recently, some Year 6s have been working with Mr. Ballard to put together our school’s first-ever Year 6 Worship Band. They played for the first time at the Year 3-6 Assembly, singing alongside Mrs. Van Zetten’s Junior School Vocal Ensemble.

A special thank you to Mr. Stewart for providing the music and sound equipment for the band to use.

Any Year 6 students interested in playing in the band should see Mr. Ballard for an audition.

The first birthday of Digger

Last week on Friday 23rd July 2021, 2G celebrated the first birthday of Digger – our class bunny!!! We had a little party for Digger, played bunny races, decorated cupcakes to look like rabbits, made a poster for Digger and had fun holding a wriggling one-year old bunny!

Many students wrote Digger a card or a note and he was also treated with special gifts from some students which was carrots, beans, celery and leaves (all of Digger’s favourite foods!). We all had a super fun time and some students stated that it was the best day of their life. It definitely was the best school day of our year and we loved starting the term with so much fun. Digger enjoyed it too and was shown a lot of love by many students in the Junior School – he sure was one tired little bunny by 3pm!

Enjoy the photos!

Science Challenge National Finals Cancellation

Because of the recent Covid-19 outbreaks in NSW, Victoria and SA, the remaining regional competition events have come to a grinding halt. We also have many borders closed to NSW at this moment in time, which makes it impossible to run the remaining Science and Engineering Challenge events. To give these regional events as much chance as possible to run in 2021, the Challenge organisers at the Uni of Newcastle have made the decision to cancel this year’s National Final. This has been an extremely difficult decision to make, however, by removing this event from our calendar, they have the space to run the remaining regional events around NSW and the rest of the mainland should restrictions allow in Term 4.

The other complication with this year’s National Final is NT and WA schools are currently not permitted to travel interstate. SA schools have to apply to the DOE and seek approval and a many more states are currently tightening up restrictions. This makes this year’s event, sadly impossible for Nationals to run.

Because of this announcement from the organisers, the LCS Leadership have met to discuss what we should do as a school seeing that we have already raised a certain amount of funds for this now cancelled event. The decision that was made was that all future fundraising for the rest of 2021 will be cancelled. This includes out future sausage sizzles, meat pie stall, free dress day and the car wash in Term 4.

With the money raised, we have decided that we really want to honour the students with what they have achieved and do something nice. We therefore brought this up and discussed possibilities at our Science Challenge Meeting last week. The students were a little disappointed at first, but totally understand and they have brainstormed a number of ideas to celebrate their achievement, which will now go to Leadership to deliberate over. We are hoping that we can have a really nice activity in store for them around the time that we would have had Nationals that they will really appreciate and makes wise use of the money raised this year.

We would therefore like to thank all parents that helped and have sponsored us as a team. We appreciate the effort you have all have gone to, to help us celebrate our State Finals win this year (whether it’s purchasing food or physically turning up to help). We would also like to thank Rotary West Tamar for their kind offer to help with our BBQ/sausage sizzle last term.In particular, we would like to thank Zab Window Fashions for their very generous donation towards National Finals and we are planning to somehow promote Zab Window Fashions with the LCS team and Susie Haley from UTas Science Challenge Co-ordination at a future date (to be determined).

If any parent has any questions related to the cancellation of the 2021 National Finals, please feel free to contact either Janette Boyle or Darryl Bain at the school.
