Science Club
Sparks. Knots. Opposites.
There are two important things to know about our final Science Club session for this term.
1. It was not run by the usual helpers.
2. There was a plasma ball.
Every so often the regular Science Club parent helpers take a break and another group of helpers take over a session. It is very important for parents to know that this last session had nothing to do with the usual helpers. It was run by Jason, Kyle and Emanuel. It was supported in the background by Julio, Melvin, Salman, Alistair and Heathcliff. Our opposites. They are the ones to blame for the knots in your children’s hair; no one else – especially not the usual parent volunteers.
It was Jason’s idea to get the Science Club kids to rub balloons and straws in their hair. Kyle may have called it stripping loose electrons off atoms. And Emanuel may have used these positively and negatively charged objects to attract and repel others. And maybe it was all in the name of science, electrostatics and learning. But the knots? Remember – it was our opposites and not the usual helpers.
Once Jason, Kyle & Emanuel were sure that everyone’s hair was full of knots they fired up their plasma ball. Who doesn’t love a plasma ball? It’s so pretty! So of course Jason, Kyle and Emanuel covered it in aluminium foil.
Science Club will return with another interesting program in Term 3 for interested L5&6 students.
Jasna, Kyla, Emma, Julie, Mel, Sally, Alissia and Heather – the usual parent volunteers - who had nothing to do with the knots in your child’s hair.
