Principal's Report
Interviews- student led conferences 15 minutes
Many families have booked their meeting times through Sentral for the upcoming student led conferences being introduced this year. The conferences run for 15 minutes – approximately 10 minutes for students to share their learning using the learning portfolio and their iPad. During this time students will talk about the work they are proud of and goals they have been working on and future learning. The remaining time is available for parents to have a conversation with the teacher without the student if required.

Reporters for grade 5/6
Student reporters in grade 5 and 6 will be writing for our school newsletters on a regular basis. Anna in 5/6O wrote about the grade 5 week covering Taskworks, STEM and sporting during grade 6 camp week. Thomas in 5/6WM will be the next reporter. Watch out for future articles in level 5 & 6 section in the newsletter.
JSC Representatives and Student Voice
JSC i.e. Junior School Council representatives were presented with their new badges by Student Voice leaders Tori and Jordy at the senior assembly on Monday. In the future the badges will be awarded to students selected for this role in term 1.
Tori and Jordy met with Whitehorse City Council Active Travel representative Mel to look at ideas to promote safe walking and riding to school. Our JSC has been active collecting data about the walking to school and using our crossings. The ideas from this meeting will be shared with all of our JSC representatives. They are also working on ideas to improve our school and fundraising activities.
Our super heroes Super Sparrow and Captain AB spoke at assembly this week about working in teams and living our school values. Well done to Arjan and Ker She! It takes courage to speak to students, parents and staff at assembly and they both did this in an entertaining way.
School Council June Meeting
Future planning has been the focus for our school council as foundation enrolments for 2020 would indicate that we qualify for another portable next year. I anticipate that Rangeview will have a school population of approximately up to 650 students. We are currently 616 students. The team has begun investigations into utilising space for growth and how to manage future enrolments.
Early Finish on Thursday and Friday
Reminder to all families that school finishes earlier on Thursday and Friday this week. The finish time of 2.30pm on Thursday allows teaching staff to begin their student led conferences from 2pm. On Friday we finish the term with a whole school assembly. Students will be dismissed at 2:30pm on both days.
OSHClub will operate from 2:30pm finish on both days for families who need out of hours school care.

Showcasing Learning – Level 3 and 4 STEM units
Level 3 and 4 classes have been showcasing their STEM learning with classes across the school and families. Grade 4 students in teams, collaboratively built mazes and programmed spheroes to travel through the maze. Amazing fun learning!
Grade 3 classes have been solving problems of play space and future garden spaces. Their collaborative projects have been voted on. Selected designs and designers will work with a landscaper to add their elements to future play and garden spaces projects around our school. This authentic design process can be seen in the newest play equipment near the oval based on grade 3 STEM unit in 2017.
New Website launched next term
We have been updating our website this term and the format looks fresh, informative and innovative, including some much-needed policy updates. I anticipate that the website will go live for the beginning of term 3.
Staffing -Acting Principal Role
I will be taking a week of leave to begin term 3 to travel to Lake Eyre with my husband, Ian Barr. Kate McLeod will be acting Principal while I am on leave. Rangeview’ s Assistant Principals, Marika Ferguson and Kate McLeod have equally shared this role of acting principal when I am absent on leave. I feel very fortunate to have such capable staff who can ably fill this position.
I wish everyone, families and staff a safe and relaxing break, and for the travellers like myself, may it be a wonderful adventure and we look forward to your return next term.
