Year 12 Legal Studies Law Talk session with County Court Judge Justice Higham
On Thursday 5th March, the Year 12 Legal Studies class had the opportunity to spend an hour and a half in the Warrnambool County Court with Justice Higham. Justice Higham gave an engaging and confronting discussion on criminal law, fairness and the many ways in which the legal system is evolving to be more representative of modern Australia. Although the students found the Justice intimidating initially, in his full court outfit and in the courtroom, they soon rose to the occasion and answered the Justice’s challenging questions and demonstrated a thorough understanding of the Victorian Criminal Justice system. By the end of the Law Talk, it was clear that Justice Higham equally valued his time with the next generation of Australian leaders and we were all grateful for the time afforded to share our understanding of Australia’s legal system. After the law talk the group viewed a number of matters in the County Court. I congratulate all of our Legal students who represented Baimbridge College with aplomb.
Mr Macdonald
Young Endeavour Youth Scheme.
An amazing opportunity exists for your child to apply to take part in the Young Endeavour Youth Scheme. If successful, your child would join a 24 person crew aboard the square rigged tall ship to sail for 11 days. S/he will learn how to sail, keep watch, handle lines on deck, navigate using charts, cook in the galley and climb the 30-metre mast to furl the sails. Your child does not need any sailing experience because the crew will be under the instruction of the Royal Australian Navy. There is a fee involved but some financially assisted places are also available. I encourage you to talk to your child about this is an excellent opportunity.
