Year 8 Humanities -

Coastal Excursion

On Wednesday, 4th September, all of the Year 8 students went to Hampton beach to look at the coastal landscape.  We looked at how man has impacted the coast line and the different types of coastal land forms.  We conducted an experiment to see if long shore drift was occurring at Hampton beach.  We also looked at man-made and human features of the beach and how the coastline is managed.  We counted wave frequency to see if the waves were constructive or destructive, and looked at groynes and how the sand builds up against them.  We had a great day with beautiful weather and put into practice the theory we had learnt in class all term.
