Deputy Principal's Report

Dear Parents/Carers,
At St Finbar's we continually aim to provide a safe and happy environment for our students. This, of course, does not mean that no one ever has a bad day or negative experience. These ups and downs are an unavoidable part of normal life in any community. Helping students to accept the problems as they arise and to develop skills to manage these and the resilience to cope is what our wellbeing approach focuses on. As we near the end of the 2018 school year we will complete thorough audits of our wellbeing programs with the aim of making continual improvements for next year.
'At St Finbar’s School we believe that the wellbeing of our students is of utmost importance if they are to experience success. We therefore strive to provide relevant and proven strategies to assist them to develop positive relationships and self esteem. St Finbar’s is a Kidsmatter School and uses this framework to guide our wellbeing practices.'

'Peaceful Parents’ is a Mindfulness and Positive Psychology based parenting workshop which aims to increase resilience in both parents and their children. The program consists of 4 sessions run over 4 consecutive weeks, with each session being approximately 1.5 -2 hours in duration. Angie is extremely passionate about the well-being of children and appreciates the importance of early intervention to arm children with the skills necessary to lead a calm and peaceful adult life. Angie’s experience as a mother to three children spanning both the primary and secondary school years, has given her a strong understanding of the pressures facing families today. She is a strong believer in the involvement of the family unit in a child’s therapy and believes this is imperative to a child’s therapeutic progress. KidsMatter
School and Families working together.
'Families are the biggest influence on a children’s mental health and play a very important role in KidsMatter.
Schools, preschools, kindergartens and day care services that have adopted KidsMatter need the support and involvement of families to make sure everyone is working towards the good mental health of children. Bridging the gap between a child’s home life and their schooling or childcare environment is what makes KidsMatter so successful.'
