UPCOMING EVENTS

Monday 11th November

Year 10 students studying a Unit 1/2 VCE subject will commence their exams from the Monday and conclude these by Wednesday 20th on November. Timetabled Year 11 classes will be cancelled but students will be supervised in G9/Middle School during this time. Please ensure that you check Compass for the most up to date timetable information.

Thursday 14th November

Year 9 students have their mock interviews which will be conducted in E block. To facilitate this real-world experience students will be coming to school dressed to impress their potential employers and only be removed from classes for only 15 minutes to attend their interview. We have a number of external people who are volunteering their time to support our students so it is essential that they make the most of this opportunity.

Wednesday 20th November

Students who will be undertaking a Unit 3/4 subject at Hampton Park will start their week long orientation at this time. It is expected that all students have as many of their resources as possible for these classes and remember that you will be diving straight into Unit 3 work that will need to be completed over the Summer holidays.

Monday 25th and Tuesday 26th November

Year 10 English and Maths exams begin on Monday November 25th. All students will be required at the College for a 9am start on both days. As students complete their ACER assessments and exams they will be dismissed. On both days most students will be dismissed at 12pm after their written exam concludes in the CRC. Please remember to bring your laptop, pencil case and ID card to each of the exams.

Friday 29th November

Bring on the Year 10 Middle School Graduation Celebration! To celebrate the last official day as Year 10 students the cohort will be going to Gumbaya World! Please remember to return your forms by the due date and many students have CSEF funds that they can use to cover this event. There is something for all students to participate in from water slides to animals to theme park rides! You don’t want to miss the last opportunity to have fun before VCE/VCAL starts!

Monday 2nd December

Monday December 2nd, the Year 11 2020 Orientation classes will commence. For this calendar week all students who will be completing VCE Units 1/2, including Year 11 students who are accelerating, and Intermediate VCAL students will have a week long Orientation Program. Please remember to purchase your English books now, see information on the Compass Newsfeed!

Tuesday 10th December

Tuesday December 10th is the last day of regular Year 9 classes! From Wednesday 11th December until Monday 16th December the Year 9 students will participate in their End of Year program. Please keep your eyes on compass for the events that will be published shortly!

Success Stories

Congratulations to James Fisher and Sonalyn Tep who have officially signed up to commence their HeadStart Apprenticeships. James fought off some very tough competition to be signed on as an Engineer with a local business and Sonalyn will be working with Swan Plumbing while studying Business and completing her class work.

If you like the idea of starting your career while in high school then consider HeadStart, it is beneficial for students do either VCE or VCAL and is a fantastic opportunity to put the skills you will develop at TAFE into a workplace that is supportive of young people wanting to improve. If you are interested pop into the careers office and ask for Peter.

Attendance

With the end of 2019 fast approaching I would like to take this opportunity to remind our students and parents of the attendance requirements at the College. Every day that a student isn’t at school is valuable learning time that they are missing out on and while we know that students get sick, the more classes that are missed the harder it is to catch up.

If your student is going to be away please contact the absence line at the College on 03 8795 9444 or lodge the absence on Compass.T his assists the Middle School Team to support families where we know that students are struggling to come to school. Students who have been away due to illness or injury must bring in medical certificates to approve the absence.

This is a good habit for families to get in as students transition to Senior School where unapproved absences impact on the their ability to be allowed to pass their classes. If you are aware of an upcoming holiday please provide a written note to the College in advance, the Student Learning Leaders will then inform the classroom teachers and a plan to support the student’s education while away from the College will be developed.

Running late? It is essential that all students who arrive after 9am sign in at the sub school. If there is an evacuation this will help us to have the most up to date information on which students are on the school grounds. All lates will be issued with consequences from the Student Learning Leader’s unless a note is provided from home to explain the delay. We have noticed several students who are consistently coming to school and classes throughout the day late. Even something as small as being 2 minutes late each day adds up over the year to over 6 hours of missed class time!

Transition and Opportunities

As our Middle Schools prepare to graduate to the next year level it is also important that all students consider the opportunities that will be available to them in 2020 that they can sign up to now. Several students have been invited to apply for specialist Science/Maths/Leadership opportunities offered by Melbourne University and Monash University. Please ensure that all paperwork for this is completed by the due dates. There will be several more programs and opportunities throughout next year so turn on your Compass notifications to stay in the loop.

Peer Support Leaders and Sport Mentors is another fantastic opportunity to give back to the College and build your skills as a young leader within the community. As they say, you miss 100% of the shots you never take. If you don’t apply for opportunities like these then you will never know what you are truly capable of.

Student Exchange

Are you interested in discovering the world? Then a student exchange might be for you!
