PRIMARY NEWS

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Please take a moment to read about some news relating to the Primary School:

TERM 3 COMMENCEMENT

Term 3 commences on Monday, 17 July. I wish everyone a safe, relaxing and fun winter holiday. We look forward to seeing you all refreshed for term 3.

MID-WINTER FESTIVAL

It was fantastic to see so many of you at our Term 2 Mid Winter Teacher play.  It was most entertaining. Thanks to the teachers who spent many hours preparing for this great gift for our community.

REPORTS

Hard copy reports were given out today to students personally.  From today, the reports will also be available through Compass via electronic download.

PREP ENROLMENTS

Prep 2018 enrolments are filling fast.  Please make sure if you have a child that is eligible for Prep in 2018 that you come to the front office and collect an enrolment form.  Both Steiner and Reggio places are filling faster than expected.  Enrolments are taken on a 'first in-first served' basis.

Take care,

INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC NEWS

Cello Teachers

Lucy Price will be replacing Jesse Martin for Term 3. Jesse has been awarded a scholarship in London and is off to study but will be back with us again in Term 4. We are very happy to welcome Lucy in his place. Lucy is a very experienced teacher with a wealth of performing and teaching experience. She is looking forward to working with the students at Collingwood College and we are very pleased that she has been able to step in at such short notice.

Woodwind Teacher

Anthony Merchant will be replacing Lyndal McLean in Term Three. Lyndal is retiring after many, many successful years of teaching at Collingwood College and various other schools. We will all miss Lyndal as she has been a devoted and caring teacher to all her students and a great colleague to work with.

Anthony Merchant plays a variety of woodwind instruments as well as piano and guitar and is very enthusiastic to take up the position. He is an experienced teacher who is keen to develop ensembles and woodwind bands within the school.

Year 10 Careers and Pathways Program 2017

Year 10 students have returned this week from two weeks of Work Experience and have spent the final week of Term 2 reflecting on their experiences in the workplace and participating in a Careers and Pathway Program that explores the various pathways students can choose in Year 11. This week students have participated in an excursion to Australian Catholic University, observed VCE classes in action, undertaken activities on the Collingwood College Careers website www.https://www.collingwoodcareers.com.au and participated in a Careers Expo where they presented the experiences in the workplace.

The feedback from employer for all students who participated in the Work Experience has been extremely positive. Employers were impressed with our students initiative and enthusiasm in the workplace so much so that many students were offered casual work.

Maeve Martin from 10B spent two weeks working at Greyhound Racing Victoria. She was offered opportunities to work in the animal welfare section and the publicity section. In her role with the communications office she was offered the opportunity to write an article about an interview with a greyhound trainer. This article was published on the Greyhound Adoption Program Website.

SCHOOL FEES

Reminder invoices will be sent out prior to the school holidays. The new office staff, Claire and Georgia, have worked really hard to ensure the invoices are accurate and match what you will see in Compass. Please can you login into Compass and complete payments. Your school fees are used entirely in classroom programs to support your children's learning. If fees are not paid then budgets for those programs are reviewed and resources are reduced for the second half of the year. This is a scenario we desperately want to avoid.

If financially paying fees is difficult please make a time to visit us or Martina to discuss payment plans. We all appreciate your support!

SECOND-HAND STRINGED INSTRUMENTS (REVISED LIST 14 JUNE)

There have been some revisions to the musical instrument list. If you are wanting to buy an instrument for this year, or move on from an out grown one then have a look at this list. There is no point in buying a brand new one if you can get one second hand! And if you have one you want to sell, contact me at n_durston@yahoo.com.au and I will add it to the list.
