SRC Congress Update
On Tuesday March 8th the first official MGC SCR Congress was held. Over 60 student delegates attended and debated issues like Uniform, the Well-being Curriculum and Facilities. The Congress Crew are currently preparing a formal report with summaries for each resolution of all points for and against. This report will be used to set the agenda for action and policy development by the SRC in 2016. Below are all of the resolutions that were carried by a majority vote during Congress.
Resolutions Carried:
That the MGC SRC Congress ratify the MGC SRC Constitution and pass it on to the MGC School Council for final approval. Sponsors – Nell Crossett and Olivia Campisi
That the SRC investigate the wellbeing curriculum, provide student input and advocate for a larger focus on health. Sponsors – Lilian Gonzalez, Alex Carstensen, Matilda Wintle, Mia Tabone, Amelia Ramage, Gabrielle Dawson, Alex Phillips.
That the SRC support strict enforcement of the Year 11 and 12 only rule for microwaves. Sponsors – Nell Crossett and Eve Crossett
That the SRC prepare a guide that clearly defines natural vs unnatural hair colors for students to use as a reference. Sponsors – Mabel Eldred and Anika Blamey

That the SRC check the PA system around the school and make a report detailing areas that require more volume and possible bell alternatives. Sponsors – Xara Hudson, Cassandra Cocks and Alex Carstensen
That the SRC recommend to the school that socks that are logo-free, white, breathable, and calf length should be acceptable under the uniform guidelines. Sponsors – Coco Smith and Ella Taylor
That the SRC will request that the 3.10 bell be reinstated. Sponsors – Cassandra Cocks and Alex Carstensen
That the SRC holds the belief that our education is the main goal of all changes & that other changes do not affect our education in a negative way. Sponsors – Ashley Hammond, Ella Jackson and Coco Smith
That the SRC holds the belief that positive reinforcement is a better alternative than detentions when it comes to the uniform. Sponsors – Emma Naismith, Lucy Skelton, and Xara Hudson
That the SRC prepare a proposal to change the uniform policy so that blazers are optional. Sponsors – Chantelle Daher and Anika Blamey
That the SRC organize another Congress before the end of 2016 and invite all students from Year 7 to 12 to participate as delegates. Sponsors – Emma Naismith and Georgia Wolfe
We would like to thank all of the hard work of the Congress Crew, Delegates and Workshop Participants for their contributions to the event. Also a special mention to Fiona Campbell of YACVic, David Mould of Second Strike Productions and Roger Holdsworth of Connect Magazine who helped support the event on behalf of the VicSRC. The VicSRC is the peak body representing school aged students in Victoria and it was the MGC delegates to their state Congress who brought the concept back for us.
