Rotary IWD Breakfast
On the 10th of March a group of girls from the Senior School Executive attended a breakfast to celebrate International Women’s Day, run by Women in Rotary. Held at Crown, the breakfast was themed ‘the ascent of a woman?’ and aimed to discuss the issues facing women today, both in professional and societal environments. The speakers delved into discussions of their own experiences and what needs to be done to achieve equality in the workplace and society. A fantastic panel, led by Maxine McKew, discussed this in much detail and included guests such as Ahmed Fahour (Managing Director at Australia Post) and Marie Turner (Executive Director at Mitsubishi Australia).
Some points raised included the wage gap, the lack of women in management positions and that companies need to work more strongly to achieve equality in the workplace. Sally Warhaft, Melbourne Broadcaster and Anthropologist, suggested that those who pay women less than men should be taxed and we thought this was a great idea! The panel highlighted the need for action on this issue and it was fantastic to see so many people come together on such an important topic.
We were fortunate enough to go the breakfast due to the generosity of Rotary Club of Richmond and the Rotary Club of Melbourne who sponsored our tickets. It was a wonderful experience and we are very grateful to have had the opportunity to attend.

Last Week we celebrated International Women’s Day at MGC. Ellie Patterson (former MGC captain) and Kirstie Marshall (former International aerial skier) had us listening intently about their achievements, goals and general life experiences.
We had a question time that we thought may not end as many were keen to hear more from them. So thank you to Kirstie and Ellie and to all those who attended. It really was a great night. A big thank you to all those who helped us set up and pack up. Thank you to Kay Clarke, Linda Brown and Cheryl Shea for their help also.
