Principal's Report

This is the first week that I have been at Concord School this year. From the beginning of the school year I have been working in the North-Western Victoria Regional office in the role of Senior Education Improvement Leader. Central to this role has been working with the Principals of the 19 Primary, 2 Secondary and 2 Special schools in the Moreland area to ensure their planning and implementation of strategies are maximising the educational outcomes for their students. It has been a fantastic experience and many of my learnings will be transferrable to what we do at Concord School.

A huge thank you to Kirrily Lamers who has acted in the Principal role during my absence.

The student enrolment continues to increase with 418 students currently attending our school. At our next School Council meeting we will be discussing the possibilities in regard to large scale works to ensure our Secondary 7-10 students are working in buildings that are not only functional and attractive but maximise student learning.

On behalf of the school staff and our students, I wish all the mothers within our school community a wonderful Mothers’ Day for this Sunday.  Life these days is a constant whirl of trying to juggle the demands of work, social activities and particularly, raising your children. Congratulations to all mothers for the work that you do each day for your families.

Please remember that there are two days early in June when your child is not required at school. There is a public holiday on Monday 12th June and a school Curriculum Day on the following day, Tuesday 13th June.

Secondary Uniform: Wearing of the School Jumper

As Term 2 commences there is a chill in the air particularly in the mornings and the students are progressively wearing the winter uniform. The vibrant red in the Secondary jumper is particularly noticeable and parents/carers are reminded once again that the school jumper, and not the spray jacket, must be worn first with the formal uniform. In other words, the spray jacket can only be worn over the top of the school jumper.

Please contact Deb Whiteway in the school office on 94673972 if you require the red (or charcoal for Year 11/12) woollen jumper, spray jacket and/or rugby jumper. Parents/carers whose circumstances may make it difficult to obtain a school uniform are asked to contact Colin Simpson (Assistant Principal) for assistance.

Parent Volunteer Information

Concord School is asking parents for their help. In a school such as Concord there are many opportunities for parents to support in the classroom, on excursions, during incursions or even assisting to make resources. This assistance supports us to support our students to become ‘the best they can be’. There are some DET requirements around volunteer support that we must adhere to. In order to assess and verify the suitability of volunteers we do ask all helpers to provide a current working with children check (WWC). Just like last year we would also like to offer some training to support parents to work in the classroom with their children. During these sessions we will talk about privacy, the role of the volunteer and some ideas about working with school aged children. The DET also determines that volunteer workers inductions are valid for one year so attendance is compulsory for all parents who wish to support and assist throughout the year.

The forums will also give parents the opportunity to be inducted into the school. Please bring along current WWC cards, if we did not get your details last year, to ensure you are ready to start supporting immediately.

We highly encourage your attendance as this is a real chance to support your child at school and continue to build on the partnership between the school and its families. It is also a great opportunity to network with other families within our community.

Principal's Award

The principal's award goes to Charlee.

Charlee Gray is a year 9 student in SCB. She has adjusted well to the expectations and structure of Secondary 9/10. Charlee enjoys reading and will take any opportunity to pick up a book and read. She has consistently shown resilience and a determination to learn.

Charlee has improved her mental math skills this term in addition and even though she finds maths a little difficult she never gives up. Her favourite subject is Visual Arts with Vera and she has produced many outstanding pieces. Well done on a great year so far!

Congratulations Charlee!
