Middle Years

What a great start to 2017.  Students in the Middle Years Sub School have jumped back into the academic rigors of the school year with no issues.  The year started with a fantastic introductory assembly were Ms Bell encouraged the Year 7’s to have ‘No Regrets’ by the time they finished at the college in 2022.

The Year 8’s and 9’s were also welcomed back to the college last week and were introduced to the whole school theme of ‘Perseverance - the real mistake is to stop trying.’  2017 has commenced in wonderful fashion, however, I am sure that any hurdles that arise throughout the year will be tackled head on and overcome.  Well that’s enough from me for now.  I’ll now pass it over to a couple of our newest members of the college community to provide their reflections on the start of the year.

The first week: A Year 7’s perspective

On the first day of School all of us Year 7’s went to the theatre for a special assembly. We listened to Ms. Bell, Mr. Brooks and some others speak and were told our Home Group teachers. One thing in the assembly that really stood out to me was when Ms. Bell got up and spoke to us about ‘No Regrets’ and how when we leave Wantirna College in Year 12 every single one of us should feel proud of our achievements and should leave knowing that we have put in 100% effort into everything and have ‘No Regrets’ about our time at Wantirna College. As well as getting to know our teachers and peers and our way around the school, we also got our lockers, which to me and a few others was very exciting. At the end of the day we were all super excited to say that our first day of High School was a great one and it’s one that I know I definitely won’t be forgetting any time soon.

I have only been at this new and exciting school for 5 days and I'm loving it here. There are very smart teachers with bubbly personalities and interesting stories to tell. My Home Group teacher, Mr Kelly, has been the funniest and coolest teacher I have ever had! My class 7B has been a great influence on me sharing amazing ideas and making me think outside the box. The school is a great place to learn with brand new facilities, amazing new subjects and a very classy café named The Orchard with a wide variety of food, it is a great place to socialise and eat! The school also has music programmes that I will be participating in, I will be playing the Viola. Everything at Wantirna College is great its faultless really with modern day equipment and buildings. I've settled in to Wantirna quite quickly because I made lots of friends from different schools such as Basil, Jack and Piper and more.

I think that Wantirna College is an amazing and inspiring school for future pupils to go through their secondary school education.
