Principal's Report

Welcome to Wantirna 2017
Welcome to the first newsletter for 2017. It is terrific to have everyone back at school, or here for the first time, and settled in and down to work.
The Year 7s and and Year 12s had a calm and engaging first day together and then we welcomed the energy of the 8s, 9s, 10s, and 11s when they started!
The Year 7s are currently off on their camps, getting to know each other and their teachers so they can put any first week jitters behind them and be comfortable in their new space.
I would like to welcome back our teaching and admin team from last year, and welcome our newest members of the team:
Alexis Haeusler, Information Technology
Natasha Haggar, Food Technology
Bethany Arena, English
Thomas Barter, English
Courtney Lever, Geography
Raymond Wang
Leader of International Students / Maths
Rashad Seedeen, Humanities
John Ioannou, Maths
Julie White, Science
Krystal Shaw, Science/PE
Kylie Armstrong, Maths
Monika Socha, English/EAL

We are really thrilled at the quality of staff we have recruited for this year and they are settling in very quickly and telling me how lovely their classes are!
Welcome back also to Carolyn Nuttal, Jess Dennison and Joe Arico.
Over the holidays we farewelled Mr Matt Pattinson from Mathematics. We thank him for his contribution to the College.
I would like to thank Ms Dina Mingos and Ms Tamara Mason for their organisation of the first days for students - the programs they put together worked
College Council Election
Each year the opportunity comes up for parents and staff to be representatives of our community on College Council. I now declare that nominations for Council are open. There are three vacancies for staff and four parent vacancies. Full details and closing dates will be in the next newsletter. Please have a think about the contribution you can make to our community by getting involved.
Compass
Thank you to the parents who opened the letter I sent out during January with your logon details and instruction book for Compass. If it got lost in the pile of papers on the kitchen bench, now might be the time to drag it out and have a look.
As Compass is going to be the main way we communicate with you in the future, we hope you can get on board. Once you start it is really easy to find your way around it. Later in this newsletter there are some answers to the questions you've been ringing us with. Your first practice is to authorise your child's attendance, online, for the Swimming Carnival that is on next Tuesday. We expect all students to be there joining in with the fun and the sporting challenge. Once you've done one approval, you'll see how easy it is going to be in the future.
Please keep your logon separate to that of your child. At times you will receive a notification asking you to verify your child's absence, and it needs to be the parent who sends the reply.
