Year 7 Girls Softball

It's only going to be 37 degrees on Monday they said. Forget the fact that we had a LONG trek to Waverly Softball Association, and that we had to be at school at 7.30 am to leave. And that there was nowhere to buy our lunch or drinks...

The important thing was that we were a TEAM. And a team that had made it to the STATE FINALS of the Year 7 girls softball tournament! Unfortunately the day of our big trip coincided with another excursion, so Ms Mortimer, who had so ably guided the team thus far, was unable to continue her sterling efforts with this very excitable (and capable) bunch of young ladies.

Enter Mr Lakovski and Miss Phyland. Not only did they get the team to the ground with five minutes to spare, they ensured that the team had a great day. Unfortunately 3 wins in the preliminary rounds did not translate to wins at States, but a lot of fun was had, and some of the team got to shine in positions they were not known for.

Being windy and dusty, Paea had sore eyes by the end of a tightly contested first game. Enter Mekerdou. Although catching was not known to her, by the end of the game she was performing very well. Serena and Anna pitched well in the conditions, and everyone gave their all. The whole team contributed with the bat, and some excellent base running was seen.

Despite losing all three games, the girls represented St Albans with pride and showed that we are a force to be reckoned with in Year 8. Well done, girls. It was a pleasure to have enjoyed your journey with you. (And the weather wasn't as nasty as forecast, which made the day even better!)
