Wellbeing News

Maddy Dyson from Les Twentyman Foundation is funded under the The Positive Futures Objective and is purely to assist to re-engage at risk young people and strengthen their engagement with education.

Maddy is able to provide relief to teachers by supporting these identified at risk students such as sitting in the classroom or having a break outside of the classroom for the end goal of the student returning to class with a positive and ready to learn attitude.

Maddy will continue to support school refusers and any additional young people in a one-to-one setting.  Maddy will run a ‘gym’ program next term for boys, with the aim of having a girls program to run as soon as possible, if not concurrently.

We have secured funding until 2021 for this program , which means Maddy will be with us for a while now and can help build our Wellbeing /students relationships further, which is fantastic for the whole school community.

We are seeing great improvement with this support and our young people are also able to hang out in the Wellbeing office with Maddy and our Student Wellbeing worker, Matt Mottram at lunchtimes and recess.

We have the Arts Wellbeing activities at lunchtimes whereby the Music and Art teachers, Ms Martinek (Art) and Mrs Lisa Maxwell-Cripps (Music) volunteer their time so rooms are available to our students to join in creative activities with their peers and and teachers.

Dave Goldsmith, our new Student Counsellor this year, has a growing list of young people that he is seeing and helping. Dave has worked with young people and youth programs for the last 15 years. While working he is also studying to complete a Masters Degree and is working here at the college with our young people one day a week Fridays.

Overall

We have from external agencies two additional Student counsellors/mentors operating on every day of the school week (Monday - Friday) now. This translates to the college providing five Counsellors and  Psychologists. This is in addition to what we already have in place with Student Wellbeing Leader and Counsellor: Ms East  Student Wellbeing five days a week, Matt Mottram Wellbeing Worker on Monday Tuesday Wednesday and Fridays.

One more very Important item that I would like to acknowledge and make public is the wonderful not for profit organisation

EATUP who provide Sandwiches for our young people who may not have had breakfast, lunch or don't bring food with them to school. Our aim is to make sure every child in our school is looked after and has food to eat.
