Interschool Sport – Term 2
The Interschool Sport program is slowing becoming more busy, with the Regional Finals from Term 1 as well as the new Term 2 sports being offered next term.
Students are encouraged to keep an eye on their emails during the term to make sure they don’t miss out on any important information regarding these events, trials, training sessions, meetings etc.
An email regarding sign up for Yr11 and 12 Sport, Yr9 and 10 Sport, and AFL (all year levels) has been sent out to all students during this week.
Sports offered in Term 2:
- Netball, Badminton, Soccer (choose one only)
- AFL (Junior Yr7-8, Intermediate Yr9-10 and Senior Yr11-12)
- Track and Field – Division Carnival (students who qualified from the House Carnival)
- Cross Country

Year 7 Sport
The Year 7 students had their very first taste of Interschool Sport at MGC. They participated in the Inner North Division Carnivals for Cricket, Tennis Softball and Volleyball against the schools in our Division: University HS, Princes Hill, Richmond HS, Fitzroy HS and Brunswick SC.
The results across all sports were very positive for MGC, with the A teams for Cricket, Softball and Volleyball all winning their respective tournaments, earning the right to represent the Inner North Division at the Regional Finals. The Tennis team played extremely well all day and the final against Princes Hill was tied at 2 singles matches each, forcing the match to be decided by a doubles match which our team unfortunately lost.
On the day, MGC also fielding social teams across all sports including 10 x volleyball, 1 x softball, 2 x cricket and 8 x doubles pairs in tennis. We had over 50% of the year level out on sport that day which is a great effort so early in the year. With Netball, Soccer, Badminton and AFL on in Term 2, it would be great to see even more students participating in the Interschool Program, regardless of their skills, abilities and experiences.
Year 7 Regional Dates are:
Cricket: Thursday, October 22nd
Tennis: Thursday, May 9th
Softball: Thursday, May 9th
