Principal's Report

Welcome to the final newsletter for term one. The learning and engagement in so many activities have seen the last ten weeks pass by very quickly. The camps, excursions, Pedal Cinema, 25th Anniversary celebrations, aerobics events, rowing regattas and presentation night, student-parent-teacher conferences and performances have engaged a wide number of our students, staff and families. Sincere thanks to the many families who made the conferences on Tuesday to build shared understandings, this collaboration is vital to student learning, engagement and wellbeing. 25th Anniversary Celebrations!

The celebrations on 23 March saw our past principals honoured from foundation principal Cavell Zangelis, Jan Parkes and Judy Crowe. Many thanks to Nancy Sandilands, Glen Holland, Sylvan Dorney, Nia Holdenson, Bryony Sahlstrom, Mella Pescos, Sefija Demirova and the entire team of over forty extra staff who worked tirelessly to bring the day to fruition. In preparation our team archived and compiled the history, photographs, news reports and memorabilia. The character strengths referred to in 1994 MGC literature are central to our current Wellbeing programs today- leadership, creativity, curiosity, problem solving, resilience, collaboration and respect.

Many thanks to our former parent and renowned photographer James Lauritiz who compiled videos to celebrate our first twenty-five years! They are coming soon to the Melbourne Girls’ College website.

Aerobics

As reported in the last newsletter, congratulations to Lana Croker of Year 12 who has qualified for Level 7 (senior division) of the Victorian team. The National Championships will be held on the 30-31st May this year in Melbourne. On 31 March Lana Croker, Mariana Pappas and Holly Morrison attended the 2nd (and final) Trial for State team selection. Our Aerodance group also competed with expertise and precision last Sunday.

Congratulations to Molly Sharrock and Richmond Rotary International Youth Science Forum

Our partnership with Richmond Rotary goes from strength to strength. Last week our Year 12 student Molly Sharrock was selected to attend the International National Youth Science Forum to be held in London in September. Molly attended the Australian National Youth Science Forum with distinction in March.

New York, New York

Our talented Arts and Design students, are taking New York in their stride. We look forward to hearing details in coming newsletters. Many thanks to Roger Dunscombe and Lucy Chen for using part of their term break to support the students and their learning.

Have a wonderful Easter break, thank you for your support of our wonderful school and I look forward to working with you in term two! I will leave you with a relaxing photo of kayaking on the Yarra!
