GRIP Leadership Conference

GRIP Leadership Conference

I had the chance of a lifetime – to attend the GRIP Student Leadership Conference!

Held at the Melbourne Convention Centre on the 13th of March, four Year 8 student leaders from Staughton College attended the conference with other student leaders from more than 15 schools in Victoria.

The leadership conference was hosted by five people who shared with us their experience and how we could help be a better leader in our school. We learnt that being a leader means, to be able to admit mistakes, follow through on promises, backup thoughts/expressions with justification, and always display good values. These points are some ways for a leader to grow in integrity.

We also learnt several ways on how to improve student’s participation in school activities, improve student’s pride of our school, and most importantly, how to make a difference in the school.

While the word “conference” sounds boring, I for one enjoyed my whole time there! The 5-hour session was filled with games and individual/team challenges which allowed me to further develop my teamwork and problem-solving skills.

Coupled with the knowledge I gained from the GRIP Student Leadership Conference, I look forward to contributing to the school as a student leader and at the same time, to develop my leadership skills.
