Assistant Principal's Report
Ms. Julie Ryan - Ms. Laura Forster - Mr. Timothy Cottrell
Hello,
I am so pleased to be writing this at my desk in my office instead of at home on my dining table!
It’s been a wonderful week having our senior students back in regular classes and experiencing face to face teaching for the first time this term. Our first day was focused on getting students back into familiar routines as well as providing them information around the new arrangements related to CoVid 19 such as changes to the canteen, the 100s buildings, movement around the school and in classrooms. We ran an assembly for both Year 11 and 12 via the Microsoft teams format where students were able to sit in their classrooms rather than as a group in the Drama Centre.
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the conversations I’ve had with students who seem to be very happy to be back at school.
This is a time for students to refocus their efforts and attitudes towards their studies now that we have returned to onsite learning. Despite the additional time and amendments made by VCAA to Study Designs to support students and the excellent work of our teachers, students must ensure that they keep up to date up to date with all work and rigorously prepare for all SACs.
Unit 1 and Unit 3 finish at the end of term 2. Unit 2 and 4 begin Term 3. In preparation for this, Year 11 students wishing to change a subject need to follow the process outlined on Compass by Ms Carmody.
VCAA has changed the dates for the General Achievement Test (GAT) and the external examinations. The GAT will take place on September the 9th and the VCAA exams will begin on November 9th and finish on December 2nd. A timetable for these will be published by VCAA by the end of term.
VCAA has also amended all current study designs to reflect the changes required by the remote learning. All students should make themselves familiar with their Study Designs which are available at the following link https://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/curriculum/vce/vce-study-designs/Pages/vce-study-designs.aspx
In Careers news, we have continued counselling students through out the remote learning period. This is ongoing and it is essential that students who have missed an appointment or not attended the appointment made for them, that they do this urgently. As the term progresses, we will continue to offer these important supports to ensure that students who are willing to work hard will achieve successful entry into the pathway of their choice.
Finally, I would like to say thank you to all of our staff for their work through this challenging period. Throughout this experience, I have had many reasons to feel an overwhelming sense of pride in Lalor Secondary College and lucky to have the privilege to work with our students and their families.
Ms Julie Ryan
Assistant Principal
It has been wonderful to welcome our senior students back to school this week, as we eagerly await the return of our year 9 and 10 students on Tuesday 9 June. We have missed your smiley faces and the general buzz of excitement that you bring into our lives, and know that you are keen to return.
Until then, continue to do your best in your remote learning classes on Teams and keep up to date with any tasks and activities that your teachers have set for you. When you do return, the year 9 and 10 team will brief all students on some of the changes you may expect at school Please refer to Mr Jewells posts on Compass as preparation to be ready to return.
Semester one reports for this year will reflect the schools transition to remote and flexible learning. Teachers will comment on the how students have adapted to the process of remote learning in term two as well has on student performance on each assessment task for all subjects. Following Department of Education advice, for this semester at least, there will not be reporting towards the progression points associated with the Victorian Curriculum. Reports will be published to parents on Monday 20th July via Compass. We encourage parents as always to keep in contact with individual teachers, or year respective level coordinators should you have any concerns.
Stay safe, until we see you back here at LSC.
Ms Forster.
Ms Laura Forster
Assistant Principal
Dear Families,
We are very much looking forward to greeting students on Tuesday, 9th June.
Again, I wish to congratulate you all for your commitment to remote learning during this period. It will be great to re-connect with friends and teachers next week. No doubt the experience of remote learning will vary from student to student, and staff are eager to work with students to re-affirm progress and settle into the classroom to finish the term.
Student Managers and the Wellbeing team are ready to assist in any way as students in any way, so please be sure to say hello.
There are very common-sense procedures in place to ensure good hygiene and safety for all, upon your return. Regular washing of hands, endeavouring at all times to maintain a distance from others of 1.5m, and remaining in seats during lessons is very important. Be sure to closely follow all instructions provided by staff. This said, it will be wonderful to see everyone again.
Best wishes,
Tim Cottrell
