a word from our leaders

Community gifts

Thank you to all the families who came through the school last night to collect your surprise gift. Over 370 staff and families received a BBQ pack!

We would love to share some photos of it being put to use. Head to the following link to upload a pic: https://bit.ly/gspvphoto

Absence due to sickness and request of learning

Thank you for being vigilant and keeping your children at home when sniffles, temperatures, colds etc arise. Without this strict adherence our whole community is impacted and put at risk.

If children are unwell, we ask that you refrain from requesting ongoing learning activities. Rest is imperative for healing.

Semester 1 Academic Reports: a reminder re changes this Semester

Thank you for your support throughout what has been a very unusual school semester.  The COVID-19 pandemic is affecting our entire community and has presented us with extraordinary challenges in managing schooling during the first half of 2020.  We are pleased that together, we have been able to make the best of this situation and ensure your child’s safety and continuity of learning.

With the regular attendance of many students being lower over this time, the breadth and depth of the curriculum covered throughout Semester 1 may have been reduced.

While we are reporting against the Australian Curriculum Achievement Standards, there have been inconsistencies in the completion of learning units and/or assessments and ongoing evidence completed.

It also means that written comments may provide less information on their progress than usual.

Learning continuity during the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic meant Good Shepherd Lutheran School implemented adaptive and innovative ways to deliver learning in two very different environments; school and home. In Semester 1, as students have transitioned across diverse learning environments, evidence of learning has been collected to show achievement in the focal learning areas taught.

Through the restrictions teachers have:

  • Delivered Parent Learning Conversations via one-way videos, in response to any feedback given as requested prior to these videos being uploaded.
  • Celebrated the growth of each student.

It is anticipated that teachers will use this evidence of learning to inform an expanded and more extensive Semester 2 report, where opportunity for a settled and consistent approach to learning is enjoyed and celebrated.

Levels of Personal Effort

Personal effort willnot be included in the Semester 1 report to allow for a more accurate assessment and further evidence of this learning to be observed and applied throughout Term 3-4.

Hats

During the months of June and July, the wearing of a hat when spending time outside for a relatively short period of time, eg recess, lunch and sport lessons, will be optional.

Playground Restrictions

The junior playground remains closed at the end of the school day as it is not possible for us to monitor social distancing, nor manage the size of gatherings.  This includes the oval for gathering and playing on after school.

Thank you for your understanding.

End of Term

Term 2 finishes on Friday 26 June.

During Week 10, staff will meet for professional development activities.

Imagination Vacation Care will run for three weeks.
