Transition to school

Dear Families

We are all very excited to welcome back the PREP- 2 students on Tuesday 26th May and the 3-6 students on Tuesday June 9th!

Please note there is a no school for students including those of essential workers on Monday 25th May.

From Tuesday 26th May until June 9th  students in Years 3-6 who are being supervised at school for ‘Remote Learning’ will continue to do so.

We have received guidelines from the Government and CECV as to how school will operate for the remainder of Term 2 at least.  Please read the following carefully.

STAGGERED START AND FINISH TIME

We have been advised to limit the number of people in the school grounds and buildings. With this in mind we are asking that parents drop their children at the back or front gate and NOT ENTER THE SCHOOL GROUNDS. Parents/ Carers will be unable to drop their child off at the classroom.

We will be having a staggered start to the school day and a staggered end to the day:

  • Families who have a surname beginning with A-L are asked to drop their children between 8:20am & 8:30am. These families are asked to collect their children from the front or back gate between 3:10 & 3:20pm.
  • Families who have a surname beginning with M-Z are asked to drop their children between 8:30am & 8:40am. These families are asked to collect their children from the front or back gate between 3:20 & 3:30pm.
  • OSHC (Camp Australia ) will operate normally. Please park on top carpark.

Various staff will be on duty before school to make sure your child gets to their classroom safely.

Various staff will be on duty after school.

Please ensure your child knows that you will not be allowed to enter the school grounds in advance.

Please ensure that your child knows exactly where they will be collected from at the end of the day; from the Parish Carpark or the Back Entrance. There will be a staff member walking the children to the Police Road Crossing.

To limit the number of adults congregating around the school entrances we encourage one parent/carer to drop off/ pick up.

Please be on time to pick up your child.

If you are using St Johns Way do not leave your car.

If you are walking to collect your child is it important that you practise the 1.5m social distancing while waiting for your child. (At the gates, within the carpark, within the street, at the crossing)

If you are using the Parish carpark please park on the west side of the carpark (parking spaces directly behind the church)and wait for your child by standing on the one of crosses / cones marked on the ground near the school fence.  Your child/ren will be on the inside of the school fence and will be distributed to you. When a cross or cone becomes vacant another parent goes to a vacant cross/ cone and so on.

Parents  dropping off /picking up their child need to be considerate , patient and MINDFUL of everyone’s safety

VISITING THE SCHOOL

If a parent has a need to visit the school we ask that you ring the office to make an appointment.

If students are late or leaving early, parents will sign the relevant form in the alcove to the entrance to the office.  If students are leaving early please ring the office to inform us.

IN SCHOOL & STUDENTS

P-2, 3-4 & 5-6 will have staggered break times throughout the day.  Students will need their snack and lunch each day. The canteen will not be operating this term.

HYGIENE

If your child is unwell in anyway, they must stay at home.  Please inform us of their absence as per normal

Sanitiser will be available for all students outside their classroom and they are welcome to bring their own.

It is strongly recommended that students bring their own water bottle to school and only use the taps at school for refilling their own bottle.

Students will be encouraged to wash their hands regularly.

Extra cleaning procedures will be implemented throughout the day and after school.

There will be no sharing of food.  This will include no party bags/ cupcakes from home for birthdays

We have been advised by CECV that temperature checking should not take place.

If you have borrowed a device from school for ‘Remote Learning’ it is expected that the device is returned on the first day your child attends school.  Your child will need to do this and give it to the class teacher. Please ensure the device and charger are returned and they have been wiped clean. The device will be checked and if any damage has occurred the cost of repair will need to be covered by the family.

The following school /parish events will not happening or have been deferred:

  • Canteen for Term 2
  • Camps & excursions
  • Inter school sport
  • Assemblies
  • Class Masses/ Sacraments
  • Choir
  • NAPLAN (cancelled for all schools  2020)

We will keep you informed if and when school and parish events are rescheduled in line with directives.

As per the requirements for schools, we plan to have a written Semester One Report for each child to you by the end of this term. It will different from previous Reports. We will report on Religious Education, Literacy and Numeracy. Parent Teacher Interviews will take place early in Term  3. We will let you know of dates and procedures.

On behalf of our school staff, I thank you all for your dedication and support of your child/ren home learning. Thank you for the understanding and ongoing support you have given the school in this challenging time. We ask that this support continues as we transition back to school!!

We look forward to seeing your children back at school on Tuesday May 26 and on Tuesday June 9th!

With every best wish
