Growth and Renewal

The focus of our conversations with students is often about learning; the way we can create our future through choices to grow and develop. Parents and students may not be aware that we also have these conversations with staff. This year all our teaching staff are involved in a program to support them to continue to learn and grow as teachers.

The first part of this process involves the teachers reflecting on their practice in the classroom. The students’ voice is an important part of this process and they are asked to complete a survey about the skills and attributes of teaching and learning from their perspective. Teachers are then involved in observing their colleagues in a lesson and offering advice. This feedback is collated and given to the individual teacher to reflect on. As a school, the teachers have completed this process this semester.

The second phase of this program is for all teachers to use their feedback to establish learning goals for semester two. The school will support the teachers through access to professional learning that is linked to their learning goals and professional reading.

Many of you also completed the survey from AIS (Association of Independent Schools)

NSW. We have received this feedback and we will now spend time with AIS discussing the areas for growth as a school. This survey was completed by students from Year 5 to 12, parents, staff and members of the board and has given us important data to consider.

Our goal is continuous improvement; we value the feedback as well as the opportunity to grow and learn. As a learning community we want to model to our students that we are lifelong learners, open to opportunities and that we all have the capacity as well as the ability to grow and develop.

At this point in time, we are planning for school to continue in Term 3 as it has for the second half of Term 2. However, we are all aware that as movement within Australia increases, we may see new cases of COVID-19 that require changes to our plans. If there are any changes to the beginning of Term 3, we will communicate with parents via email.

I'd also like to take this opportunity to bid farewell and thank you to teachers Libby Barnes and Phillip Hickingbotham, who are both departing to move on to new challenges. We wish them both the very best for the future.

Please enjoy the break and we look forward to welcoming everyone back on Tuesday 14 July.
