Setting high standards of achievement

Year 8

I have been really impressed with how well Year 8 students have transitioned back to fulltime face-to-face schooling.

I have had reports from various teachers about how engaged they have been in their learning and have seen students focused on their work in class.

Congratulations to the following Year 8 students who have received Bronze Awards:

  • Dominic Nguyen – 240 CHAMP points
  • Sandra Jabro – 231 CHAMP points
  • Rilee Ward – 114 CHAMP points
  • Kaitlyn Tanner – 112 CHAMP points
  • Rayven Yonan – 112 CHAMP points

It is clear that Year 8 have missed their friends and are enjoying the social aspect of being back at school. This is very important for their wellbeing and happiness.

I would like to take this opportunity to remind students that mobile phones should be off and out of sight and ask parents to be vigilant with their children’s use of social media. We also do not want students using their phones in the playground, especially Tik-Tok. We want to encourage students to spend time with each other and form healthy friendships based on mutual respect.

Year 11

I have been visiting a number of Year 11 lessons since our return to face-to-face teaching. It has been great to see students actively participating in their learning. I have particularly enjoyed watching students work collaboratively on projects in Entertainment Industry and Design & Technology.

Congratulations to the following Year 11 students who have received Silver Awards:

  • Felicia Leong – 379 CHAMP points
  • Claudia Ghiselli – 343 CHAMP points
  • Jayden Choy – 343 CHAMP points
  • Ashley Paule – 341 CHAMP points

Teachers have just completed writing Half-Yearly Reports for Year 11 which will be issued at the conclusion of the term. Upon receiving these, it is important to not only look at the grades that students have achieved for each learning outcome, but also what they have received for their work ethic habits. These are the skills that are the easiest to change and that will also have the greatest impact. They include:

  • Completes classwork
  • Completes homework
  • Displays sound organisational skills
  • Works co-operatively
  • Works diligently
  • Works independently

If students are not receiving “consistently” for each of these, then this is where they should start to try to improve. Teachers have also listed areas for improvement in the comment section of reports. It is crucial that students take this feedback on board.

Lastly, the reports provide students rankings in each course. Students should look at this and set some goals on where they would like to be and use the skills suggested above as a way to do so. Working with their teacher is also key. Congratulations to all Year 11 students who have made an incredible start to their preliminary courses. I have been really impressed with how well they have settled in to being “seniors”.

Recently, there has been an increase in students asking to take time off from school to complete driving tests and/or other activities. Leave for this will not be granted. It is important that students are at school every day and every lesson as every day counts.

Parent Feedback on the Learning Support Team

Cecil Hills High School is currently undertaking a school evaluation of the Learning Support Team faculty. The faculty consists of teachers and aides who support students with their learning. The evaluation process allows us to celebrate achievements as well as identify areas to work on in our cycle of continuous school improvement.

We would appreciate it if parents could please complete the survey here   to enable us to hear your feedback on the Learning and Support Team. Individual responses will remain confidential.

Thank you!
