The Careers Department -  launching now!

It is with great excitement that I share with you the launch of  The Careers Department - an innovative digital careers program that our students are now able to access.

The message is clear: “if you can see it, you can be it”.  The Careers Department

showcases 800+ pieces of industry and course content that can show your child all of the options on offer to them post high school.  This digital program is a touch point for our students to not only experience different industries, but to see these industries in action and to learn from professionals.

At Cecil Hills High School, we believe in success and we continue to inspire and empower our students to make informed career decisions.  There is no cost for your child register.  This program is funded by the school.

What does the program involve?

It's like Netflix, but for life after school. Students do not need to know what they are looking for when they log on. The program is organised so that they can search by:

  • The subjects they like at school,  for example -  Art or Science or Sport
  • A course name that they are considering, Engineering or Communications
  • A future job that they may be interested in, for example - Marine Biologist or Journalist
  • Or via a module type

Based on students' search types, The Careers Department program will then recommend other stories for viewing.  Like on Netflix when you watch a certain genre, The Careers Department records what you are interested in and helps you find other content that you might not have considered.

Although your child might have an idea about their direction  after school, they probably only know about 5% of the jobs that are available to them right now, and it’s hard for them to know what to search to find them.

At The Careers Department, your child can explore different options, note down plans for next year, save courses of interest and ask questions.

Each student creates an individual account which includes 24/7 access to The Careers Department.

Content examples include:

  • How to get a job at a Big 4 accounting firm
  • The truth about studying exercise science
  • What are the job prospects for a future lawyer
  • What to expect inside an engineering degree
  • Site tour with a residential builder

Plus:

  • Over 800 pieces of industry content
  • virtual tours, videos, podcasts, career timelines and more
  • Virtual work experience tasks
  • A job finder and CV builder
  • Profiling assessment
  • Live webinars
  • Live guest speakers
  • Career goal tracking
  • Chat service
