Celebrating success

Principal’s Report

We're closed for decoration

Because fortune has been smiling

So now we're due for painting

New plumbing and re-tiling

We'll make a ship-shape showplace

Of a little shop and then

Tomorrow we'll be open again

Learning from Home

I would like to thank our school community for their support of our model of online learning over the last few months and our return to school.  In terms of my introductory quote, our school was of course never “closed” but we did undergo a massive “renovation” in learning.  At our executive conference next week, we will be celebrating those aspects which were successful and consider how we can maintain momentum with our focus on innovative teaching.

School Attendance

Almost all students have now returned to normal attendance patterns.  I have mentioned many times that if a student has 90% attendance from Kindergarten to Year 12, they will miss 1.3 years of schooling.  It is essential for each student to attend school each day.  Our aim is for 100% attendance.

Sleep and Wellbeing

As students return to a more ‘normal’ routine, one of the most important challenges is to re-establish good sleep habits.  This recent SMH article contains some tips on effective sleep routines.

Business Directory

A reminder that our online business directory has been launched!

These local businesses are community members supporting our school and parents may wish to use these local services.

Parents who are interested in joining our business directory should contact the school for information.

New Permanent Staff

Congratulations to Mr Thomas Nguyen who has been appointed as a permanent teacher at Cecil Hills High School.

Mr Nguyen has done a fantastic job in assisting his faculty colleagues in the Mathematics faculty and teachers in other faculties transition to online learning over the last few months.  As a former student at Cecil Hills High School, one of his career goals was to return to our school as a teacher which he has now achieved in a permanent capacity.

P&C Meetings

Our first online P&C meeting took place this week via Zoom with approximately 25 parents participating.  Our P&C meetings are run as information sessions for parents and we value your input to help us with our decision-making.  Our next meeting will be held at 6:30pm on Monday, 3 August 2020.  We will decide closer to the date on the format for this meeting.

I look forward to continuing to work with the staff, students and parents of Cecil Hills High School, the best school in NSW.
