Spotlight on Art

Ceramics

By Sally Miller, Art Teacher

Mrs Miller's Year 9 Ceramics class has been working on some exciting design projects.

Students had to design a proposed sculpture for the EastLink freeway. They had to include details such as the materials they would use, the scale of the sculpture, visual elements, the location and justifications. The results were absolutely fantastic!

Student Reflection by Coco C

I was really excited when I got told that our new project was to create a proposed statue for the EastLink freeway. In fact, I would have loved it if I could actually have made it and put it on the freeway. How cool would that be?

I had many different ideas for this project. I first tried to make the fox out of wood, but I later realised how much sawing and waiting it would take so I decided against this. Next, I tried making it out of cardboard and hot glue, but the hot glue made it look way to messy. So, I went back to the drawing board. I had seen a video of wire being wrapped around other metal and decided that was what I was going to do. I later realised that I didn’t have any metal rods or the necessary equipment to cut metal. This is when I decided to use skewers and wrap them with coloured wire. It took a really long time to wrap the skewers with the wire but in the end, I believe that it turned out well and looks amazing. - Coco C.

Year 9 Art students recently researched the lives and works of selected famous artists. Student then created an Artist Birthday Box, decorating the exterior and filling the interior with symbolic gifts for their artist. Considering the challenges faced this term, our students have done a phenomenal job!

Easter Packaging:

Talented Year 12s Create Easter Packaging Designs

Year 12 Visual Communication Design (VCD) students were given a brief to demonstrate their understanding of packaging nets.

The task required students to take on the role of “leader of a local kindergarten fundraiser committee” and raise funds for the upcoming Easter break.

VCD students created three different packages to house chocolate eggs. The packages were to hold at least 10 eggs, be decorated (Easter themed), attract the target audience and be sturdy.

As you can see in the gallery above, the students went above and beyond in creating their amazing designs.

What a fantastic effort - I'm one very proud teacher!
