WOMEN

As we enter what should have been week 8 of our home and away season, I have to admit to feeling a little like a bear crawling out of hibernation this week! Notwithstanding that, it's great to have been able to make our first tentative steps towards normality and see everyone's smiling faces back on the pitch, even if it is from 1.5metres! Everyone has rallied around and we were able to get our first seven groups of womens groups up and running this week. Our coaches have really come to the party too, to try and make the sessions fun and interesting within the limitations of what the new government regulations allow and everyone has been really great, fitting in with our temporary training timetable. We have also had fabulous ZOOM fitness and pilates sessions run by Sarah Tulloch and Brodie Farrow. Thanks girls - you have been awesome! We are still waiting on direction from Hockey Victoria if we can move to larger groups, so for this week, we will continue with two groups of ten, one each end of the pitch. Once we are allowed to train in larger groups, we will reassess and adapt the timetable depending on numbers keen to train.
We are also still waiting to hear from Hockey Victoria what our game season might look like. We know that there will be no promotion/relegation across all competitions, and that the season is likely to be concluded by 31 October. At this stage a start date is pegged for between mid July and early August but like all sports this will be dependent on how things progress under the easing of Covid-19 restrictions. In the meantime we will do our best to get as many training activities up and running as we can, and we will share updates on the season as we hear them from Hockey Victoria.
Josh Pollard Q&A
Don't forget to tune into Hugh McLaughlin's interview with Josh Pollard our new men's PL coach at 5pm tonight (Sunday May 31st) via zoom. Josh has had an awesome hockey career winning PL flags, AHL titles and playing for the Kookaburras while also having injuries and setbacks along the way.
