Level Six Launchpad

Narrative Writing

From the start of this term, all of the Level Six students have been in the planning stage of writing their own short stories about the theme - Journey/Quest, whether it be mental or physical. We have been working on building characters, potential settings, possible plot/solutions, options for introducing and concluding our stories and much more. Here are the experiences from the school captains of how Launchpad has been so far:

Joshua- Launchpad time has been really exciting for us grade sixes. Whenever it is planning time the classroom bursts with creativity and discusses their stories with each other. So far, we have created most of the plan of our future published short stories- many wonderfully created. I have talked to my classmates about their stories and all of them have great thought and time put into them.

Isobel- I have really enjoyed doing Launchpad so far as I really like writing and I (think) that I have a good imagination. Over the years of my schooling, I have learnt a lot about writing and I have grown to love it. It is so fun now to be writing a story that will be published and I like hearing and talking about other people’s stories. We have been writing our stories in stages, and we began by doing planning for two weeks. We have had an author come and teach us about what our stories should shape up to be like, and how to get what goes on in our mind onto paper. I, on the whole have altogether really enjoyed this experience so far and I am really looking forward to being able to write down my story.

Lexie – Launchpad has really helped expand my creative horizons and given me multiple opportunities to learn about how to delve into developing my characters. This is the first story that I’ve done several pages of planning for and it feels great to be creating something that I can have with me forever. I’m very grateful to be able to have the chance to make a story and combine it with my peers.

Weihan- Writing the launchpad story has really supported me in my creative writing and how I am able to write. It has improved my skills and how I plan out my stories. It is extremely exciting to know that all of our stories will get published in an actual book that all of the Year Six students will have access to. I have enjoyed this and have shared my ideas with my fellow peers. So far, we are planning the stories. It has been a lot of fun to be able to express my ideas on paper and write down what I think. Besides that, an author come to direct us and oversee us and advise us. So far, all of the lessons have been thrilling and we have all contributed greatly.
