Assistant Principal's Report

Miss Carly Epskamp

What a week! We've had another busy one here at DPS with lots of exciting events, community celebrations, hard work and FUN.

Congratulations to all of our students who have been at school for 100 days in 2022. The Preps celebrated this day in style with pancakes, pyjamas, fun activities and a special presentation in the afternoon.

Movie Nights

We are so pleased to be bringing the student community together for Movie Nights. The uptake on this fundraising event has been positive and over 100 Prep, Level One and Level Two students enjoyed their movie last Friday night. We are looking forward to the Level Three/ Four Movie Night this Friday and the Level Five/Six Movie Night on Friday 12th August. Well done Miss Larsen and the JSC for organising these fun events for our student body. We will let you know the total raised once all three Movie Nights have finished.

Peaceful Kids

Last week we began a program called Peaceful Kids with a small group of Senior School students. Peaceful Kids is a mindfulness and positive psychology based program designed to increase resilience in children. It gives children the skills, practise and support to utilize coping strategies that lessen the symptoms of stress.   The program will run for 8 weeks and we look forward to watching the students build resilience and forge new friendships.

Manningham Photo Competition

Every year, Manningham Council hosts a photo competition for the community. This is the first year that we at DPS have been involved, which is very exciting. The competition is dedicated to encouraging the work of amateur photographers, their creativity and fostering a healthy relationship between council and community.

Our interested Level Five and Six students have already met with Miss P and have been encouraged  to submit a photo taken in Manningham in the past year that captures the theme finding balance. Each student is allowed to submit three photos that reflect this theme. The prizes are impressive:

1st place = $500

2nd place = $400

3rd place = $300

We can't wait to see the photos our students submit into this competition. I will feature some of our entries in upcoming newsletters. Good luck to our Level Five and Six photographers.

Traffic Update

We continue to be alarmed by some of the car park behaviour displayed at both drop off and pick up times. This is another reminder to make sure you are following road rules in and around the school and always conducting yourself in a safe way. Please do not drop your child off in the teachers car park on Hummel Way, as this is an out of bounds area, unsafe for children. The School Captains have been talking to the DPS students each week about road safety and how to behave in car parks throughout our online assemblies. This will continue, as we believe it's really important to educate students and make them aware of safe/ unsafe practises.

Beanies

Beanies are still available for $20 at the School Office if you wish to purchase one. You can pay via cash or card.

School Captains

Our School Captains Josh, Weihan, Lexie and Isobel are doing a wonderful job in their current positions. Each Monday, they run a smooth assembly that requires a lot of preparation and practise. Mrs Vesdrevanis and I are proud of our School Captains and the leaders that they have become throughout the year. Thank you captains for your hard work, positive attitude and friendly manner that you spread around the school.

School Tours

Every Tuesday I take families on a tour of DPS and show them our wonderful facilities, teachers, students and highlight the programs we have to offer. Often these families wish to enrol their children at Doncaster Primary School. If you know of a family who are contemplating Doncaster Primary School as  a viable option for their child's education, please ask them to call the school office and book a tour. I'd be happy to take them around and show what DPS has to offer. This includes students who will begin Prep in 2023 as well as students who perhaps wish to transfer from another school.
