ASSESSMENT POLICY UPDATE - TERM 3, 2022

The COVID-19 pandemic has made 2022 a challenging year in terms of the implementation of assessments. In response to this and to help our students, the College has made a number of important changes to the Assessment Policy and to assessment procedures.

Students have been provided with more opportunities to complete missed assessments and have the mark count toward their final mark and grade. As a result, fewer students have been awarded standardised marks.

It is strongly recommended that students who are feeling unwell should not attend school to complete an assessment. This particularly applies to students who may be experiencing a sore throat, cough and/or respiratory symptoms.

Students who miss an assessment have the opportunity to complete a catch up assessment before school at 8:00am in MLC 9/10 (opposite the entrance to the Koort Centre). Students are expected to complete the catch up assessment(s) within three school days of returning to the College. Parents and caregivers should speak with their relevant ADP if their child has:

  • Missed multiple assessments
  • Been unable to prepare for the missed assessment due to the severity of their illness.

If a student in Years 10-12 is unwell and therefore unable to attend school to complete an assessment, parents and caregivers are required to email the relevant Assistant Deputy Principal (ADP) a medical certificate or proof of a COVID-19 result. If this is not possible, they should email the reason why their child has missed the assessment and why it is not possible to provide a medical certificate.

Parents and caregivers of students in Years 7-9 who miss an assessment due to illness are required to email the relevant ADP with an explanation of why their child has missed the assessment.

LEARNING CONFERENCES - WEDNESDAY 27 JULY (WEEK 2, TERM 3)

A reminder that there is a Pupil Free Day for students in Years 7-10 and an Independent Learning @ Home Day for students in Years 11-12 on Wednesday 27 July (Week 2) to facilitate Learning Conferences (Parent/Teacher/Student Interviews) for all students.

As a result of the feedback received from parents, the Learning Conferences will take place online via Microsoft Teams. Parents are encouraged to act quickly to book interviews as this is the final Learning Conference for 2022 and it includes all students from Years 7-12.

The Learning Conferences will be eight minutes in length, with two minutes allowed for change over from one interview to the next.

If an exclamation mark is displayed alongside the teacher's name on Parent Teacher Online (PTO), it means the teacher has recommended that you book an interview. ALL parents will be able to book interviews until 9:00am on Monday 25 July (Week 2).

To provide parents with choice and flexibility, the Learning Conferences will be conducted in two blocks:

  • Block 1 - 9:00am to 12:30pm
  • Block 2 - 2:30pm to 7:30pm

Accessing Parent Teacher Online (PTO):

  • Full instructions are provided to you after you login to PTO.
  • Click 'Obtain PIN/Password' and enter the email address you have previously provided to the College.
  • Your PIN will be emailed to you.
  • The email you receive will include a link that can be clicked on to log straight into PTO, bypassing the login screen.
  • If you have previously saved a PTO password in your browser, you will need to delete this for the new one to work. Alternatively, you can open up a private/incognito browser window.
  • Enter PTO HERE.

WESTERN AUSTRALIAN CERTIFICATE OF EDUCATION (WACE) CREDIT FOR ENDORSED PROGRAMS

A reminder that students can receive credit towards the achievement of the WACE for participating in and completing Endorsed Programs. Students must submit copies of Endorsed Program participation/completion to the staff in the Pastoral Care Centre (PCC) or to me directly via email (lcicchini@sacredheart.wa.edu.au) by Friday 29 July (Week 2).

If evidence of participation has previously been provided to the College, you are not required to provide the same evidence again, although you may wish to check this with me. Parents will soon receive a detailed letter in relation to Endorsed Programs.
