WELCOME BACK

Welcome all our staff, students and families to Semester Two. I hope that staff and students have had a restful break and are now ready for another busy semester of school. I especially welcome all the new students and their families and wish them a very enjoyable start to their schooling at Sacred Heart College.

At the end of Term 2, I had the pleasure of sighting all the College Reports. I was impressed with the fine efforts and high achievements of students spreading across Years 7 to 12. Last term we acknowledged those students in Years 11 and 12 with Academic Honours and Sacred Heart Learner Awards. Today we presented these prestigious Awards to our Years 8 and 9 students and, next Friday, we will present these to our Years 7 and 10 students. All recipients were acknowledged in the last Newsletter in Week 10 of Term 2, which can be revisited HERE.

SPIRIT OF THE ARTS PERFORMING ARTS FESTIVAL

This week is the commencement of the Spirit of the Arts Performing Arts Festival for Catholic Schools. I was joined by Sr Marie Therese Ryder RNDM, Campus Minister Mr Chris Kan and Mission and Ministry Captains Nic Ruthven (Trinity) and Izabella Walker (Normandy) for the Opening Liturgy at St Mary’s Cathedral. The Festival concludes on Thursday 1 September and our Performing Arts students will be involved in a number of performances over the duration of the event. The Festival is enormous and involves approximately 15,000 students from 100 Catholic schools from across the state. I am certainly looking forward to seeing our students showcasing their talents on stage and wish them well for their performances over the coming weeks. I also thank our staff for preparing the students so well for this year’s Festival.

YEAR 12 PRODUCTION

On Wednesday and Thursday evenings, our Year 12 Drama students presented their annual drama production, ‘Curious Mind, Falling’. The storyline follows the main character who has autism and becomes curious about a life without autism. She undergoes ‘brain modification surgery’ to experience the brains of others in an attempt to ‘find herself’. It was a great show with many fantastic performances and I was in awe of the talent of our Year 12 Drama students. Well done to all involved.
