Year 1/2 Report

Term 3 2022

Welcome back everyone to Term 3! The Grade 1/2 teachers have been busy preparing engaging activities for you all. We have an exciting and jam-packed term organised for our students which include...

  • Bundoora Park Heritage Village Excursion
  • Grade 2 Sleep Over
  • Grade 1 Stay Late
  • Book Week activities and parade

Numeracy

During Term 3 in Numeracy, students will continue investigations in place value and counting patterns through games and activities. This will support the consolidation of their addition and subtraction skills and number facts. The emphasis during numeracy sessions will be to develop sound understandings using concrete materials and being able to explain strategies used and explore alternative methods to problem solve.

We will also explore the topics of 2 Dimensional and 3 Dimensional Shapes and Statistics and Probability through practical activities.

Literacy

During Term 3 in Literacy, students will be exposed to Narrative mentor texts with a focus on Fables. They will be analysing the Narrative Structure and recognise and follow the sequence of events in the stories they read. Students will focus on the comprehension strategies of summarising, visualising and inferring.

Students will be focusing on writing their own Narratives. They will be immersed in rich demonstrations of writing through shared and interactive writing.  Students will begin to explore and identify simple writers craft used by authors. Using this knowledge, they will work through the 5 stages of writing, Planning, Drafting, Revising, Editing and Publishing to produce their own Fable. Students will celebrate their writing successes by sharing their published pieces with an audience.

Inquiry

During Term Three in Inquiry, students will be exploring a unit titled ‘When Grandma Was a Girl’. Students will explore the ways family life has changed over time and how childhood is different from now to then. They will participate in a range of experiences including playing games from the past, listening to older generations talk about their childhood experiences. An excursion has been organised to explore Bundoora Park Heritage Village, where students will take a step back in time.
