Prep Report

Welcome to Term 3!

Literacy

In Term 3, we will be learning how to use different reading strategies to help us read. These will include: matching the pictures to the words, looking at the initial sounds, chunking up larger words, and predicting.

We are going to finish learning the letters of the alphabet through singing songs, reading stories, playing games, and participating in language experiences. Students will continue to use their knowledge of the letters and sounds to blend and segment words in their reading and their writing.

Our writing genre this term is Factual Texts. In both reading and writing, we are going to learn about the difference between Fiction and Non-Fiction texts. We will be exploring the features of a non-fiction text and use our new understandings to write our own factual pieces of writing.

Numeracy

In Term 3, we will be covering the following topics

  • Counting to 20 and beyond
  • Measuring capacity
  • Addition and Subtraction
  • Time

Inquiry

Our Inquiry Topic in Term 3 is "It's a Celebration". We will be learning about different celebrations and why they are special to people and begin to develop knowledge about cultures in our community and world. We will be learning about cultures through reading and listening to narratives ad participating in celebrations.

If there are any special events that you and your family celebrate we would love if you can share these with the class! Watch out for notices about upcoming activities this term via Sentral.

SEL

This term in SEL we will be learning about Personal Strengths and Emotions. For the first half of the term we are going to learn to identify our likes and dislikes, needs and wants, abilities and strengths. The four main strengths that we are going to focus on are: being helpful and responsible, being kind, being brave, and being fair. For the second half of the term we will be learning to develop a vocabulary and practise the expression of emotions to describe how we feel in different situations.
