Welcome back to another exciting term here in Grade 6! We have many things to look forward to, including the District Sports Day for the Netball Mixed team and Girl's Soccer team, as well as our excursion to IMAX and the Melbourne Museum!
This term in Literacy, Grade 6 students will be reading a variety of non-fiction texts. Students will develop skills in identify topics, paraphrasing the information read, classifying information, using the features of a text to make meaning and making comparisons between different text types. During writing lessons, the Grade 6s will be using their research and paraphrasing skills to write Information Reports about different topics, including natural disasters and countries around the world.
In Numeracy this Term, Grade 6 students will be developing their four operations skills before exploring the order of operations and how best to solve problems when more than one operation is involved. Using real world scenarios, Grade 6s will practice different strategies to solve problems. Students will also explore Cartesian Planes, Mass and Square and Triangular numbers.
Inquiry this Term explores 'How the location of a place affect its environment?'. Grade 6s will research different countries from around the world, looking into their location in the world, the natural characteristics of the country and its climate. Students will then make comparisons of their country to Australia. As students explore environmental influences of different countries, an excursion to IMAX and Melbourne Museum will assist in understanding of their environment.
