Year 5 Report

Term 3 2022

Welcome to Term 3,

During this term, the children will continue to participate in a Social and Emotional Learning program. Specifically, the students will be identifying their strengths and how these can be used to improve their life. In addition, Jess Baido will continue to work in the classroom with the teacher, participating in activities that will focus on building social and emotional skills to facilitate positive peer relationships. The classroom teacher will then reinforce these sessions during the week.

During this term, the children will continue to be involved in all aspects of the English curriculum: Reading, Viewing, Writing, Speaking and Listening.

In Reading and Writing they will be exposed to the text structure and language features of a non-fiction text, which will assist them when writing their own information reports on topics of interest. As usual, the students will develop individual reading goals and use their 'just right' books to  learn these goals. Their Speaking and Listening skills will continue to be developed through various activities, including working in cooperative groups, presenting their projects, and everyday reflections.

In Maths, students will be exploring a variety of strategies with which to solve multiplication and division problems. They will then apply this knowledge in measurement, including area and volume. In addition, students will also explore chance and probability, which will include using fractions to quantify a probability.

In Term Three, the children will learn about the nature of Australia’s democracy and compare it to other forms of government. They will be exposed to the three levels of government and some of the key functions of each level.  The children will also learn the process by which a bill becomes a law.
