Italian - Competition

TT Rock Stars

As part of our commitment to make maths exciting and high profile in our school, all classes from Y3-6 are taking part in a friendly competition involving schools in Australia. The competition runs from 08:00 AWST Sunday 21 August 2022 to 20:00 AWST Wednesday 24 August 2022

It's all done online via play.ttrockstars.com.

Children can play in any gamemode with every correct answer to a multiplication or division question, earning themselves, their class and the school a point. The Times Tables Rock Stars platform will calculate the class average (the number of correct answers per pupil in the class who play during the competition hours, subject to a daily 60-minute limit (see below)). Winning classes in the school and in the competition as a whole will be the ones with the highest average.

To support player wellbeing, there is a daily time limit of 60-minutes per player. In other words, each player can earn competition points for up to 60-minutes between 08:00 AWST and 20:00 AWST on 08:00 AWST Sunday 21 August 2022 to 20:00 AWST Wednesday 24 August 2022. Once the player goes beyond 60-minutes of play on that day, they will still earn coins but will no longer earn points towards the competition. Time will be given during the school week for children to play, but are welcome to play at home during the set hours.

The competition coincides nicely with our school’s Rock Stars Table Week in Week 6, and all points will also be put towards our termly interclass competition. Will anyone beat the reigning champions Room 2?

This term we challenge you to crunch the rainbow for Crunch&Sip® by making a rainbow in your classroom. Eating different coloured fruits and vegetables provides lots of different vitamins, minerals, and phytochemicals. Which is why crunching on a rainbow will help kids get the right balance of nutrients they need for a healthy body.

Djilba | The first Spring has sprung

The Noongar Season ‘Djilba' is represented by the colour pink as it symbolises the growth of wildflowers and plants. This first season of Spring occurs August to September. Depending on which part of WA you are in, timing of the seasons may vary and may be referred to by another name.

Throughout Djilba there will be some very cold and clear days as well as warmer, rainy and windy ones too. You might notice budding djet (flowers) and certain plants such as koola (emu plum) starting to fruit. It's also a great time to catch some djildjit (fish).

The woodland birds are getting ready for nesting, so watch out for the swooping protective behaviour of the koolbardi (magpie), djidi djidi (willy wag tails) and chuck-a-luck (wattle birds).

Djilba is the beginning of the flowering season, with the bright yellow Acacia's being some of the first to bloom. Keep an eye out for the flower stalks of the balgas (Grass Trees) too as they start to sprout with the warmer days ahead.
