This Week's Updates

Dear Families,

Today is the Feast of the Assumption and we celebrated Mass at midday as a school community.

Last Thursday was a golden opportunity for all staff to gather and immerse ourselves in the 'Respectful Relationships' government initiative along with spending time on what it looks like at our place. We are always building our knowledge and resourcing opportunities to find the best practice for our community.

Congratulations to all of our St James Auskickers who had their final session on Saturday morning. A special mention and thank you to the coordinator, Chris Harvey who has been doing this for the past seven years and especially kept the enthusiasm going throughout the past few COVID affected years.

We have our girls' netball team playing in the regional finals tomorrow. Best luck to the team. If they win this tournament they will reach the state finals!

We look forward to celebrating the Sacrament of Confirmation with our Year Six families on Saturday afternoon at St John's Church in Mitcham.

Next Monday is the beginning of Book Week and our Year Six student leaders have organised a dress up parade for Monday morning based on a book character. In discussions with the students we decided not to make it too big a deal or expense at home and to use items you already have at home, rather than purchase anything.

Please keep up the COVID safe practices. We appear to be over the worst of it regarding student absence due to the Coronavirus.

Preps are Celebrating 100 Days of School

Now that we have both classes are largely back on deck, we're all looking forward to finally celebrating this milestone on Thursday 18th August with lots of fun activities planned. Stay tuned for photos!

This Thursday morning drop off: Please be aware that our Year 4, 5, 6 students will have busses at school from 8.30 - 9.00 to transport them to their Athletics Day. It would be great to have most parents and students using either the pedestrian gate near the teachers' carpark or Frank Street on Thursday morning. The other option is to drop students away from the main gate and have them walk an extra 50 metres to the gate. Thanks for your support with this.

Don't Forget

  • Year 5 Parents: Orders for 2023 Rugby Tops need to be in by next Monday 22 August.
  • A special thanks to the parents who are able to come along on Friday mornings to help with Art Show preparations. Your time is really appreciated.

I ventured up to Sydney yesterday to see the Pies v Swans game: not such a good result for Collingwood. I took a Long Service Leave day today to catch up with friends and family in Sydney and will return to school on Tuesday.

Enjoy the week,

Dave
