Grade 5/6

ANIMAL EXPERTS

The weird and wonderful animal facts that we are learning about continue to amaze us all. Everyone was asked to select an animal that they didn't know much about and that has certainly created lots of interest. From Emperor Tamarins and Capybaras to Ring-tailed Lemurs and Hog nose snakes. It has definitely been an eye opening experience. In fact not only have we been learning about different animals, we have also learnt about each animals biome by researching what type of biome they live in and what makes it unique and crucial for their animal's survival.

In order to discover more about where their animal lives, we have been utilising the amazing resource of Google Earth. Students have been able to identify accurately what type of conditions and environment that their animal lives in. This has been an excellent learning tool for their diorama's that will be created next week.

If any families have any spare boxes (shoe boxes/slightly bigger) that they wish to donate to the Grade 5/6s so we can create this, that would be muchly appreciated.

MATHS

In Maths this week, we have been working on our skills in fractions. This has included identifying the common fractions and understanding how a fraction is represented. We have focused on finding where particular fractions would go on a number line. Students also reflected on fractions that could be made involving themselves and their friends. Such as what fraction of us have a pet dog? etc. Fractions will be our focus before moving on to decimals and percentages.

CAMP

It is getting close to Camp time! We are super excited and busy planning everything. We hope that students have started getting their belongings organised.  Please keep in mind we would love for the students to have the responsibility of packing so they know where everything is. This can also help reduce some of the anxiety leading to camp. We understand that students are unsure about what to expect and we are having open conversations and getting them to ask as many questions prior to going to support them for what will be a fun and amazing experience.

A reminder to please return all forms ASAP to the classroom teacher.
