Year 9 News

Term 3 Welcome
Hello again everyone and welcome to this edition of the Year 9 News. Term 3 is well and truly under way, and it has been great to see the students settling back into some great learning. New electives have started and there is always a bit of shuffling of students as they find their feet in their new subjects. Class lists have now been finalised and students can concentrate on getting the most out of the subjects they are enrolled in for the semester. Along with the classroom activities, there are also quite a few extra-curricular events to look forward to. So make yourself a cuppa to go with the cool weather and read on to find out what is happening in Year 9 at the Churchill Campus.
Job Skills Expo
Year 9s attended Lardner Park on Tuesday the 26th July to engage with the Job Skills Expo hosted by the Baw Baw Latrobe LLEN. Despite the weather, a good time was had by all as students saw examples of a wide range of industries and vocations. There were also plenty of freebies. It was great to see lots of students attend the seminars with a particularly high turnout for the Defence Force and apprenticeships talks.
Melbourne City Exploration Camp
On Year 9 Camp, students are experiencing restaurant dining and continental breakfasts each day. Activities include a range of educational and recreational opportunities that are providing great opportunities for those attending to grow. Students not attending camp are being delivered an alternative program which aligns with the activities on camp. Students are returning this afternoon and will no doubt sleep well tonight.
Community Project
The Year 9 Team would like to congratulate the students who attended the Alpine School in Term 2. These students stayed on site for the entire term, no doubt missing their families and friends, and facing many challenges. A great outcome of this venture has been their community learning project. The students’ idea for this is to build a community garden in partnership with Lumen Christi Primary School. To ensure the project idea comes to fruition, an elective class will dedicate their time and learning to designing and constructing the garden. Watch this space as we bring you updates of the garden’s progress. One of our students sketched this plan below.
