Year 7 News

Melbourne Museum Excursion

Forty Year 7 students recently visited the World War 2 Jewish Holocaust Museum and Melbourne Museum. Each location linked to our subject work: the novel Once, in English and Ancient Greek History in Humanities. Thanks to Ms Barfoot for organising the trip and students for their keen interest and responsibility while in public venues. A persuasive restaurant owner also encouraged students to join their teachers for a delicious pizza in Carlton.

Student Success on Compass and Achievement Postcards

Many students have been identified by teachers for their positive learning behaviour, their improved effort, organisation, participation and attitude in class. We encourage parents and guardians to celebrate this at home as we do at school. Teenagers are never too old to have an achievement postcard on the fridge.

Tuesday and Thursday Lunchtime Catch-ups

If students do not complete class work, the Campus Principal supervises a lunchtime catch-up visited by the teacher who has listed the student. Year 7 students are aware that this is compulsory and this message of high expectations is spreading across the year level.

The Hurting Game

Year 7 experienced a performance from two talented young actors who alerted students to issues of friendship, peer pressure, bullying, ‘fitting in’, body image, social pressure, homophobia… to name a few. Homegroup teachers have followed up on some of these issues by discussing and completing activities about positive self-talk, bouncing back from disturbing or upsetting situations and resilience through sharing feelings, building connections around oneself and acknowledging personal strengths and who we are.

Victorian High Ability Program

Congratulations to the seven English students and 2 Mathematics students who were identified by the Education Department to participate in an enriching online learning experience. This is challenging and extending our high-ability students over a 10 week course. By offering them the opportunity to engage with like-minded peers, the program will also support their confidence and wellbeing.
