Welcome to Semester 2 and the Start of Term 3!

Mobile Phones at School

In line with the Department of Education policy, students are not to have their phones during the school day.  If students bring their mobile phone to school, then they need to adhere to our policy.  Phones should be in bags or lockers once they enter the school until they have left the school grounds at the end of the day.

NAIDOC Celebrations

During week two, the college celebrated NAIDOC with a number of events being held at each of the campuses.  On Monday, July 16th, Churchill Campus had a lunch time BBQ for all students.  There was a relaxed vibe while students heard from Kelvin, Bailey and Shanaya who explained the meaning of NAIDOC, this year’s theme of ‘Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up!’, and delivered the Acknowledgement of Country.

This year’s theme is a “Call to action for people to trade their position as passive bystanders and become active campaigners. It is no longer good enough to deem yourself an ‘ally' without putting in the work. This means supporting Indigenous-owned businesses, educating yourself and spreading the message on media – all of which are simple ways to make an effort.”

Our music team entertained us all with songs from Indigenous artists and students saw artwork of Ryhia Dank from the Northern Territory, who won the 2022 National NAIDOC week design.

Thank you to all the staff who made this such a wonderful event.

Catch-up Class and Homework Club

I encourage all students to attend our Homework Club on a Wednesday after school in the library from 2.50 - 4.00 pm. This is a great way to get help from staff on any work not completed, work collaboratively with friends and to take advantage of the resources in the library.

Our previous after school class which was held on Mondays has now been moved to Tuesday and Thursday lunch times. This class is not optional and is for students who have not completed their work in class.

As I tell students, "Come to Homework Club to stay out of the Catch-up Class".

Staff Farewell and Good Luck

Sadly, we will have said farewell to Ali Khaki and Rob McGhee.

Ali has taken up a position with the Virtual School Victoria to be closer to Melbourne and to try something a little different from being in a physical school. Staff and students will certainly miss Ali’s knowledge and gentle approach.

Rob is taking six months' leave from Kurnai College to work closer to home at Toongabbie Primary School.  We look forward to Rob returning in 2023.

We wish them both all the best with their new endeavours.
