Year 9 and 10

A peek into year 9 and 10 activities

Our year 9 and year 10 students have had an exciting, adventurous and fun-filled term with many educational and interesting activities throughout.

MCG Visit

On Monday 1 August Year 9 students ventured down to the Melbourne Cricket Grounds. Students were taken for a tour and saw the club rooms, press conference areas, memorabilia, recovery pools and even got to step foot onto the sacred surface. Students exemplified all of our school values on today’s excursion and should be immensely proud of the way they are representing Sunbury College.

Students were also able to test their sporting skills in the ‘Game On’ section of the museum.

Based on today’s approach, future trips may involve students being given more opportunities to exercise their independence through some student-guided time in the city.

Visit to Kangan Institute

On Thursday 4 August a group of Year 9 and Year 10 students interested in the automotive industry visited Kangan Docklands. It was a great experience with many hands-on opportunities including changing tyres on racing cars, virtual spray painting and welding.

Feedback from the students was extremely positive and we are proud of their endeavour and conduct on the day.

Duke of Edinburgh Hike

On Wednesday 10 August Year 9 Duke of Edinburgh students went on a practice hike to the top of Mt Macedon

Students displayed strong college values including resilience to make it to the top of the 725m ascent, walking a total of 14km.

It was an amazing effort by everyone and a great introduction to hiking.

Shrine of Remembrance and Street Art In Melbourne

On Friday 12 August the Year 9s had a fantastic day in the city learning about Melbourne and Australia’s history. Students were taken on a guided street art tour through some of Melbourne’s most famous places including AC/DC and Hosier Lane. Students were able to see local artists' pieces as well as a piece done by the famous Banksy. Students exemplified all school values as they were taken on a tour of The Shrine of Remembrance.

Students learnt about the impact of the war and the sacrifices Australians made for our freedoms today.

Old Melbourne Gaol and Chinese Museum

On Monday 15 August, year 9 Students visited the Chinese Museum and learnt about the history of Chinese immigration to Australia. They learnt about the Gold Rush and the impact that Chinese culture has on modern-day Australia.

Students then visited the Old Melbourne Goal and learnt about the dark history of the Goal and some of its inmates such as the infamous Ned Kelly.

Students then got to hear about some of the ghost stories and even saw a picture of a ghost.

It is great to see the students' confidence growing in navigating around the city and travelling to and from activities.

Melbourne Museum and IMAX

On Thursday 28 July Year 9 students had a fantastic day at the Melbourne Museum and IMAX cinema. Students were immersed in the place we call home on the big screen and learnt about what life is like in space.

🦖In the museum, students took a walk with the dinosaurs and got up close with Horridus the Triceratops and took a step back in time.
