Year 7 and 8

A peek into the student lives of our year 7 and 8 students

Our Year 7 students have had a great term, which has been full of fun and exciting activities and challenges.

Connect

During Connect, students have been exploring anti-bullying, cyber safety, relationship building, careers and subject selection, goal setting, trivia, and Minute to Win It challenges. With every week having a different focus, students are engaged and often compete against their peers in fun activities.

Semester 2 Subjects

Year 7 and 8 students experienced a subject change at the beginning of Semester 2. Two subjects completed, and two new subjects for the remainder of the year.

Year 7: Food Technology, Art, Drama and Digital Technology

Year 8: Food Technology, Textiles, Wood and Plastics and Music

SEPEP

Students are currently amid their Physical Education SEPEP tournament, with Year 7s competing in soccer and Year 8s, Rec Footy. Students have been taking on leadership opportunities to umpire and score matches amongst an amalgamation of classes.

👏🏼We are extremely proud of our students for showing good sportsmanship and challenging themselves in a positive, competitive way.

🏆Stay tuned for the winners of the Championship Cup!

Year 7 Zoo Excursion

Taking the Science curriculum to another level, Year 7 students visited the Melbourne Zoo. The sessions directly related to the Classifications Unit, as well as Ethics assessment tasks for Term 3. Students learned the differences within and between groups of organisms, the interactions between organisms and how they can be described in terms of food chains and food webs. In addition, how science and technology contribute to finding solutions to a range of contemporary issues.

For some students, this was the first time attending the Melbourne Zoo and for others, a familiar return with some new and exciting animals to see. Overall, a great opportunity for learning to happen in a different environment.

🦍 The favourite animal of the day was the gorillas as they were very active and waving back at the students.

Year 8 PPU Seminar

Earlier this term representatives from Sunbury Police Station, Police Protective Unit delivered an educative seminar on anti-violence and anti-bullying to our Year 8 cohort, with an emphasis on decision making, compassion and understanding perspective.

Global Academic Challenge

Congratulations to a group of our year 8 students who participated in the Global Academic Challenge earlier this year.

This competition was designed to challenge high-achieving students to apply their knowledge and skills against international benchmarks in the disciplines of Mathematics, Reading and Science.

It was great to see our students achieving several high-distinction and credit awards across all three disciplines.

👏🏼Well done to all of the students for their participation.

Victorian Challenge and Enrichment Series

Moon Base Camp

Congratulations to our year 8 student Charlie Dorman on being selected to participate in the Moon Base Camp at Scienceworks.

Charli was selected from applicants around Victoria to participate in this program, working collaboratively with other students to design a Moon Base for human survival on the Moon using programs like TiknkerCAD and CoSpaces to create a virtual 3D design. Well done on this amazing experience Charlie!

Zoos Victoria Youth Leadership Program

Congratulations also to one of our Middle School Captains, Elizabeth Crump, who was selected to participate in Zoos Victoria's Youth Leadership program with other students around Victoria.

This program supports Year 9-10 students to develop tangible and usable science skills while growing as a leader in a group environment. The Youth Leaders have been working on completing a scientific investigation and will present their scientific research findings and share their plans for their next leadership steps. Well done on your achievement Elizabeth!
