Principal's Message

A message from our principal Craig O'Bree

Our year 12 VCE and VCAL students are approaching an important stage of their school year.  They are finalising learning and being assessed on outcomes for each of their subjects. Our senior students are also selecting their pathways for next year through VTAC applications or arranging interviews for apprenticeships, traineeships and other employment opportunities. The class of 2022 are demonstrating great endeavour and responsibility at this time.  As they strive for their own personal best while supporting their peers both in and outside of the classroom. I also want to acknowledge the critical role parents and carers play through this period in supporting their children.

On Wednesday 10 August, I was fortunate to attend the Meet the Duxes evening with a number of our high-performing year 12 students and their parents and carers. On the panel for the evening were three of our previous duxes, Emma Drummond (2022), Aidan Ross (2021) and Sarah Hansen (2020), along with Hailey Asfar, another one of our very high performing 2022 Sunbury College graduates who is studying medicine this year.

📣The panel was able to share their experiences through their VCE, including learning, study skills and well-being advice that contributed to their success.

  • 🧣On Thursday 11 August our year 12 students participated in our Warm and Fuzzy Day where students were able to wear PJs and other comfortable clothing, share kind and supportive notes with each other and enjoy a BBQ lunch.
  • 👏🏼 The Year 12 cohort demonstrated great care and responsibility for each other through this day, as they do every day throughout the year.

Last term our school undertook the four-year school review and is now using the findings to develop the school's next school strategic plan (2023-2026). The school’s goals for the next strategic plan, along with the key improvement strategies (KIS) that provide further directions for the goals and represent the next steps for the school and our aim to continuously improve student learning and wellbeing outcomes, are as follows

Goal 1- Empower students to be engaged partners in learning.

  • KIS 1- Establish a whole school culture that encourages students to be active participants in school improvement.
  • KIS 2- Develop staff capacity to activate student agency in learning.

Goal 2- Optimise the learning and well-being outcomes of every student.

  • KIS 1- Strengthen the capability of teachers to differentiate their practice to enable all students to achieve their learning growth and well-being capabilities.
  • KIS 2- Deepen the capacity of leaders and teachers to provide an environment that reflects the school values and that enables effective learning and wellbeing.

In the recent Curriculum day on Wednesday 27 July, both teaching and education support staff delved deeply into our school's data and school review to unpack the KIS and begin to develop potential actions that will support the school in achieving the KIS and school goals.

Best Wishes,
