Sarah Lim appointed Alumni Committee President

We are delighted to announced that Sarah Lim (peer year 2003) has been elected as the President of the Kilvington Alumni Committee, effective immediately.

The Committee meets every second month and is made up of former students who graduated in 1982 through to 2019, including Ann Cleghorn, Peter Yu, Charan Naidoo, Mitchell Cole, Rachel Cetrola and Lizzie Yeo.

Sarah replaces outgoing President, Sarah McSwiney, who is stepping down to take on the position of Chair of the Kilvington Board. Sarah will remain as a member of the Alumni Committee.

Sarah brings a range of valuable skills to the Committee including stakeholder engagement; project and workflow management; policy advice; risk and compliance management; process improvement; and securing and managing grants. But, perhaps her most valuable asset is her passion towards strengthening connections between Kilvington’s alumni.

'I look back at my time at Kilvington very fondly. It was a beautiful nurturing school and, at the time, I don’t think many of us realised how lucky we were to be part of such a special community.

Twenty years later, it still has the same feeling. I whole-heartedly believe it's the values shared by the Kilvington community that help to connect us with each other.

In my role as President, I want to help continue to build the Kilvington community and create opportunities that foster strong relationships within; not just within our own friendship groups or year levels, but across generations of Kilvonians.

The Kilvington community is diverse and multi-talented, and I am driven to create an inclusive and active alumni community. You never know what friendships, partnerships or opportunities await from that serendipitous connection.'

Sarah has a Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Hons) and a Master of Business Administration (MBA).

Special report: building resilience post pandemic

Unfortunately, the mental health of young people has been significantly impacted by the pandemic. As many families settle back into pre-COVID routines, there seems to be a pervasive sense of optimism about what lies ahead.

What kids need most in the current environment is support, understanding, empathy and encouragement from caring adults. They live up or down to the expectations we set for them.

If there is a panacea to the adversity caused by the pandemic, then it is the building of resilience. Resilience is the capacity to face, overcome, be strengthened and transformed by adversity. Never before, have parents needed the skills, the knowledge and the strategies to build resilience in their children as much as they do now.

There are seven integral and interrelated components that make up being resilient that can help young people thrive and develop healthy coping strategies. This Special Report explores the '7 C’s of Resilience' and includes suggested strategies on how adult carers can best facilitate them.

We hope you take a moment to reflect on the information offered, and as always, we welcome your feedback. If this raises any concerns for you, a loved one or the wellbeing of your child, please seek medical or professional help.
