What a busy few weeks we have had in the Health & Physical Education Curriculum!

Curriculum Update

Foundation:

To commence Term Three, the Foundation students have participated in a Perceptual Motor Program (PMP). The purpose of this was to enhance and grow the student's confidence with their Fundamental Movement/Motor Skills (FMS). To achieve this, student's moved around the gym to participate in a variety of different activities. Some of these included the balance beam, motor bike landing, paddle board and bean bag catch. It was great to witness the students confidence and development grow over the three weeks.

Moving forward the students will begin a unit on kicking (an FMS Skill) and will incorporate the game soccer.

Year One/Two:

To commence Term Three, the Level 1&2 students moved straight into a four-week soccer program which if funded by Sporting Schools. An accredited soccer coach has been coming out once a week to deliver an hour-long lesson to the students. In these sessions, the students focus on fundamental soccer skill development, team-play and will progress to playing a modified version of a soccer match. To witness the instant skill development and progression has been fantastic and something the students should be very proud of. Keep up the great work.

After week four the students will move back to practising some of the key Fundamental Movement skills such as striking and bouncing. We will incorporate sports like T-Ball, Cricket and Basketball to support the skill development

Year Three/Four:

Over the past few weeks, the Level 3 & 4 students have participated in some fitness and skill testing. The purpose of this was to assess and measure their improvement from Term One. Some of the tests that were conducted included the Beep Test, Vertical Jump, Step-ups and kicking distance.

Upon completing these two lessons the students moved into practising the skills involved with certain team sports such as soccer and indoor hockey. The skill practised then progressed into gameplay with a key focus being teamwork and skill application.

Year Five/Six:

Over the past few weeks, the Level 5 & 6 students have participated in some fitness and skill testing.

State Cross-Country:

On Thursday July 14th Jacob Macknamara represented our school at the State Cross-Country Championships. For a student or team to reach this stage is an outstanding effort. This was made even more special by the fact that Jacob was a bottom age competitor in the 9/10 age group.

Jacob ran an amazing race and placed 29th overall. As a school, we could not be anymore proud of his efforts. We know he will use this as motivation come back stronger and faster for next year.

Congratulations Jacob!

Division Netball and Football

On Friday 22nd July, our Level 5-6 Division Netball team competed at the State Basketball Stadium.

In the first game they came up against The Patch and won that game comfortably. After that, they faced some tougher competition against schools who had players in representative netball teams.

Overall, the girls placed 3rd which is an amazing effort and something they should be very proud of. A big thanks to Mrs. Woollard who coached the girls at both the District and Division Carnival and a further thankyou to all the parents who came to support on the day.

Well done USPS!

On Tuesday 26th July our Level 3-6 AFL team competed in the Division Carnival at Kings Park. We were fortunate enough that the weather held off and we were able to witness some amazing talent and teamwork.

We started off with a great win against Selby with the scores finishing 48-0. We then carried this on into our next game beating Ferntree Gully North. After this we suffered our first loss to Mount Dandenong by 2 points. In saying that, we knew we would still be a chance to progress if we kept playing the football we were capable of.

Unfortunately, even though we beat the eventual winners in Emerald, we missed out on progressing by percentage.

I would like to congratulate all players on their efforts over the day, you should all be super proud.

A special thanks to Chris Cartwright who was the runner on the day, Mr. Kitch who goal umpired and the parents who came out to support.

Well done USPS!
