Inquiry - Term Three

Our Term Three Inquiry focus is all about circuit breakers, electricity and robots. Year 5/6 students will be comparing different ways which energy can be transferred from one state to another and how it makes electricity. They will investigate how circuits carry energy from a source to generate power. Over the duration of the term, students will be constructing simple open and closed electrical circuits.

In the second half of the term, students will be investigating themes surrounding specific hardware, software and coding strategies needed to manoeuvre a variety robots.

Students will be assessed on this unit of work by working in small groups. They will be responsible for designing and presenting a working circuit. Students will need to work with their group to develop a design brief and make relevant changes so that their circuit works. This task not only relies upon drawing on knowledge learnt in class, but also relies on students making connections with people they wouldn't normally work with. Students will be required to build skills in resilience, persistence and social capacity also as a major learning outcome for this unit of work.

Home Learning:

Home Learning in Term Three looks a lot different to that of Term Two. Each week, students will be sent home with a 'Homework Book'. It is expected that each week, students are completing at least four night of reading, two Spelling activities from the activity matrix provided, the Maths worksheet which is linked to concepts taught in class and either their Science lab report/ or a Writing activity. Activities that are linked to Science and Writing will alternate each week.

A reminder that Homework will be sent home each Friday and cover the concepts taught. throuout the week prior. It is due back the following Wednesday.

Camp:

The 5/6 camp to Campaspe Downs has been locked in! (October 17th - 20th). It will be on us before we know it and in the coming weeks you will receive more information via COMPASS.

We would love to see all students attend, however if your child will not be in attendance, place communicate with their classroom teacher.

More information about the camp can be found at:
